Again he said,“ Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”

“ I am not saying these things to all of you; I know the ones I have chosen. But this fulfills the Scripture that says,‘ The one who eats my food has turned against me.’

Come closer, and listen to this. From the beginning I have told you plainly what would happen.” And now the Sovereign Lord and his Spirit have sent me with this message.

“ The Redeemer will come to Jerusalem to buy back those in Israel who have turned from their sins,” says the Lord.“ And this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord.“ My Spirit will not leave them, and neither will these words I have given you. They will be on your lips and on the lips of your children and your children’s children forever. I, the Lord, have spoken!

Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.

Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.

From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another.

As the time drew near for him to ascend to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.

Yes, I came from the Father into the world, and now I will leave the world and return to the Father.”

While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven.

Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.

Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end.

For Christ did not enter into a holy place made with human hands, which was only a copy of the true one in heaven. He entered into heaven itself to appear now before God on our behalf.

That is why the Scriptures say,“ When he ascended to the heights, he led a crowd of captives and gave gifts to his people.”Notice that it says“ he ascended.” This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world.And the same one who descended is the one who ascended higher than all the heavens, so that he might fill the entire universe with himself.

“ Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations.

“ Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed.

Then what will you think if you see the Son of Man ascend to heaven again?

This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John,

“ Men of Galilee,” they said,“ why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”

but God raised him to life on the third day. Then God allowed him to appear,not to the general public, but to us whom God had chosen in advance to be his witnesses. We were those who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.And he ordered us to preach everywhere and to testify that Jesus is the one appointed by God to be the judge of all— the living and the dead.

“ Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

And then he told them,“ Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages.They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.”When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand.

But if I am casting out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you.

This letter is from Paul, an apostle. I was not appointed by any group of people or any human authority, but by Jesus Christ himself and by God the Father, who raised Jesus from the dead.

“ Don’t cling to me,” Jesus said,“ for I haven’t yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them,‘ I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

The wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

“ Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give fruit from the tree of life in the paradise of God.

This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary.Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

The apostles returned to Jesus from their ministry tour and told him all they had done and taught.

Then Jesus said,“ I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.”

“ Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.

And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.He will delight in obeying the Lord. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay.

Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.And he said,“ Yes, it was written long ago that the Messiah would suffer and die and rise from the dead on the third day.It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem:‘ There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’You are witnesses of all these things.“ And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”

Then he appointed twelve of them and called them his apostles. They were to accompany him, and he would send them out to preach,giving them authority to cast out demons.These are the twelve he chose: Simon( whom he named Peter),James and John( the sons of Zebedee, but Jesus nicknamed them“ Sons of Thunder”),Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James( son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus, Simon( the zealot),Judas Iscariot( who later betrayed him).

After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him.

Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon( also called Peter), then Andrew( Peter’s brother), James( son of Zebedee), John( James’s brother),Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew( the tax collector), James( son of Alphaeus), Thaddaeus,Simon( the zealot), Judas Iscariot( who later betrayed him).

At daybreak he called together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles. Here are their names:Simon( whom he named Peter), Andrew( Peter’s brother), James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,Matthew, Thomas, James( son of Alphaeus), Simon( who was called the zealot),Judas( son of James), Judas Iscariot( who later betrayed him).

Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory.

When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying. Here are the names of those who were present: Peter, John, James, Andrew, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew, Matthew, James( son of Alphaeus), Simon( the zealot), and Judas( son of James).

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

I want you to remember what the holy prophets said long ago and what our Lord and Savior commanded through your apostles.

For he is sent by God. He speaks God’s words, for God gives him the Spirit without limit.

“ Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches. To everyone who is victorious I will give some of the manna that has been hidden away in heaven. And I will give to each one a white stone, and on the stone will be engraved a new name that no one understands except the one who receives it.
