But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.

保吾魂於刀劍兮。脫吾命於狂畜。

爾等宜惺惺昭昭、恆自警惕、蓋與爾為敵之魔鬼、如吼獅猖獗、遍覓可吞之人。

茲欲告慰於兄弟者、即予所遭受之一切、適足促成福音之發揚光大也。蓋予為基督而受縲絏、已為御營內外公認之事。而多數宗主之兄弟、因予之被囚、舉相率鼓其勇氣、再接再厲、以大無畏之精神、弘宣天主之道。

主曰：『第往、斯人乃吾特選之器、將以吾名播諸異族與列王、以及義塞子孫。

總之、彼等之征服敵國、發揚公義、獲賜恩諾、箝制獅口、

是夜、主臨葆樂曰：『勿餒！汝今為予證道於耶路撒冷、來日亦必得為證於羅馬也。』

誰救窮困者。其惟主雅瑋。

予當賜爾靈慧口才、非爾敵人所能駁覆。

夫我乃諸聖中之至微者、竟亦蒙此殊恩、得在異邦人中弘宣基督不可思議之厚澤、

竊思基督耶穌以吾為忠實之徒、令供斯役、且予我以扶植、賜我以神力；此恩此德、昊天罔極。

主與善人鄰。有難必見臨。拯之群逆手。報答忠貞心。

觀此可見天主固知何以脫善人於危難、而將惡人留待審判之日、以受顯罰。

入夜、主示異象謂葆樂曰：『毋餒於心、侃侃傳道、勿緘爾口。吾與爾俱、孰得相害？邑中多屬吾民。』

爾被解時勿慮將如何言、當作何語；屆時必示爾所當言；

吾之忍耐、以及吾之顛沛造次、艱辛憂戚、莫不耳濡目染。當日吾在安底阿宜高念利斯特諸地、所遭受之一切危難迫辱、想汝猶能憶之；然吾恃主之恩佑、至今猶依然無恙也。汝其識之、

惟天主能堅定爾等信心、使爾等與我所傳之福音及耶穌基督之聖道中、能確立不搖。斯道也、即有世以來所蘊藏之玄妙、今則據先知之書、按天主之聖謨、而揭曉啟示、宣揚於天下萬民令其翕然歸於一信；

予之拔汝於眾民萬邦者、欲汝啟眾民萬邦之目、使自黑暗轉向光明、脫沙殫之掌握而歸依天主、俾以信予之故、而獲罪赦、與一切因信成聖者同嗣洪基。」

以予所隸屬、所奉之天主、其使者昨夜立予前曰：「葆樂勿畏、汝必得立於凱撒前；且與汝同舟共濟者、天主悉以賜汝矣。」

然主謂吾曰：『吾之聖寵、已足助爾、蓋吾德之彰、即在柔弱中也。』故吾欣然以柔弱為樂、庶幾基督之神德、能常寓吾身。
