奸詐、躁妄、自衒、好佚樂、不好上帝、

不信乎友、苟且自衒、樂佚樂、不愛上帝、

奸詐賣友、任意妄為、倨傲自大、專愛宴樂、不愛天主、

叛逆無信、剛愎自用、桀傲成性、不愛天主、惟愛荒逸、

treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

They will turn against their friends. They will act without thinking. They will think they are better than others. They will love what pleases them instead of loving God.

In the same way these people— relying on their dreams— defile their flesh, reject authority, and slander glorious ones.Yet when Michael the archangel was disputing with the devil in an argument about Moses’s body, he did not dare utter a slanderous condemnation against him but said,“ The Lord rebuke you!”

For some people, who were designated for this judgment long ago, have come in by stealth; they are ungodly, turning the grace of our God into sensuality and denying Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.

These people create divisions and are worldly, not having the Spirit.

They are spots and blemishes, delighting in their deceptions while they feast with you.They have eyes full of adultery that never stop looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!They have gone astray by abandoning the straight path and have followed the path of Balaam, the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of wickednessbut received a rebuke for his lawlessness: A speechless donkey spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.These people are springs without water, mists driven by a storm. The gloom of darkness has been reserved for them.For by uttering boastful, empty words, they seduce, with fleshly desires and debauchery, people who have barely escaped from those who live in error.They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption, since people are enslaved to whatever defeats them.For if, having escaped the world’s impurity through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in these things and defeated, the last state is worse for them than the first.For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy command delivered to them.It has happened to them according to the true proverb: A dog returns to its own vomit, and,“ A washed sow returns to wallowing in the mud.”

He must not be a new convert, or he might become conceited and incur the same condemnation as the devil.

True enough; they were broken off because of unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but beware,

because such people do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites. They deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting with smooth talk and flattering words.

Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy.
