It trains us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live self- controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

They will put you out of the synagogue, yet a time is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God.

“ For this reason I am sending you prophets and wise men and experts in the law, some of whom you will kill and crucify, and some you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town,

“ If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother, and wife and children, and brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.Whoever does not carry his own cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.For in fact when we were with you, we were telling you in advance that we would suffer affliction, and so it has happened, as you well know.

And you will be hated by everyone because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.Whenever they persecute you in one place, flee to another. I tell you the truth, you will not finish going through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.“ A disciple is not greater than his teacher, nor a slave greater than his master.It is enough for the disciple to become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house‘ Beelzebul,’ how much more will they defame the members of his household!

But others were tortured, not accepting release, to obtain resurrection to a better life.And others experienced mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment.They were stoned, sawed apart, murdered with the sword; they went about in sheepskins and goatskins; they were destitute, afflicted, ill- treated( the world was not worthy of them); they wandered in deserts and mountains and caves and openings in the earth.

I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering, but take courage– I have conquered the world.”

Now the dragon’s tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child as soon as it was born.

who will not receive in this age a hundred times as much– homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, fields, all with persecutions– and in the age to come, eternal life.
