not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us— whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter— asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.

What if you receive a message that is supposed to have come from us? What if it says that the day of the Lord has already come? If it does, we ask you not to become easily upset or alarmed. Don’t be upset whether that message is spoken or written or prophesied.

not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

Don’t be so easily shaken or alarmed by those who say that the day of the Lord has already begun. Don’t believe them, even if they claim to have had a spiritual vision, a revelation, or a letter supposedly from us.

that you not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit, or a message, or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come.

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,

When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don’t be alarmed; these things must take place, but it is not yet the end.

Jesus replied to them,“ Watch out that no one deceives you.For many will come in my name, saying,‘ I am the Messiah,’ and they will deceive many.You are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet.

There were indeed false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, and will bring swift destruction on themselves.Many will follow their depraved ways, and the way of truth will be maligned because of them.They will exploit you in their greed with made-up stories. Their condemnation, pronounced long ago, is not idle, and their destruction does not sleep.

saying,“ Where is his‘ coming’ that he promised? Ever since our ancestors fell asleep, all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation.”They deliberately overlook this: By the word of God the heavens came into being long ago and the earth was brought about from water and through water.Through these the world of that time perished when it was flooded.By the same word, the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.Dear friends, don’t overlook this one fact: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.

Do not call everything a conspiracy that these people say is a conspiracy. Do not fear what they fear; do not be terrified.You are to regard only the LORD of Armies as holy. Only he should be feared; only he should be held in awe.

You will keep the mind that is dependent on you in perfect peace, for it is trusting in you.

When you hear of wars and rebellions, don’t be alarmed. Indeed, it is necessary that these things take place first, but the end won’t come right away.”

For we say this to you by a word from the Lord: We who are still alive at the Lord’s coming will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

By your endurance, gain your lives.

“ Don’t let your heart be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.

For false messiahs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.

“ I have heard what the prophets who prophesy a lie in my name have said:‘ I had a dream! I had a dream!’How long will this continue in the minds of the prophets prophesying lies, prophets of the deceit of their own minds?Through their dreams that they tell one another, they plan to cause my people to forget my name as their ancestors forgot my name through Baal worship.

“ If a prophet or someone who has dreams arises among you and proclaims a sign or wonder to you,and that sign or wonder he has promised you comes about, but he says,‘ Let’s follow other gods,’ which you have not known,‘ and let’s worship them,’do not listen to that prophet’s words or to that dreamer. For the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and all your soul.You must follow the LORD your God and fear him. You must keep his commands and listen to him; you must worship him and remain faithful to him.That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he has urged rebellion against the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the place of slavery, to turn you from the way the LORD your God has commanded you to walk. You must purge the evil from you.

I, Paul, am writing this greeting with my own hand, which is an authenticating mark in every letter; this is how I write.

When it became known to the house of David that Aram had occupied Ephraim, the heart of Ahaz and the hearts of his people trembled like trees of a forest shaking in the wind.

He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

If a man comes and utters empty lies—“ I will preach to you about wine and beer”— he would be just the preacher for this people!

except that in every town the Holy Spirit warns me that chains and afflictions are waiting for me.But I consider my life of no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course and the ministry I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.

But the beast was taken prisoner, and along with it the false prophet, who had performed the signs in its presence. He deceived those who accepted the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image with these signs. Both of them were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for God’s wrath is coming on the disobedient because of these things.

so that no one will be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are appointed to this.

“ Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don’t let your heart be troubled or fearful.

For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.

So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold to the traditions you were taught, whether by what we said or what we wrote.
