David also defeated the Moabites. He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. So the Moabites became subject to David and brought him tribute.

David also won the battle over the people of Moab. He made them lie down on the ground. Then he measured them off with a piece of rope. He put two- thirds of them to death. He let the other third remain alive. So the Moabites were brought under David’s rule. They gave him the gifts he required them to bring him.

And he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground. Two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.

David also conquered the land of Moab. He made the people lie down on the ground in a row, and he measured them off in groups with a length of rope. He measured off two groups to be executed for every one group to be spared. The Moabites who were spared became David’s subjects and paid him tribute money.

有我所見、但不屬今時、有我所觀、但不係近日、明星將出自雅各、秉大權者將興自以色列、必攻擊摩押四圍、誅滅塞特諸苗裔、

有匪徒曰、斯人也、何能救我、乃藐視之、不饋禮物、惟掃羅默然、

勿聽希西家之言、蓋亞述王如是云、爾當與我修好、出而降我、則爾可各食己葡萄樹及無花果樹之果、各飲己井之水、

摩押王米沙、有羊眾多、歲以羔羊十萬、未翦毛之牡綿羊十萬、納貢於以色列王、亞哈死後、摩押王叛以色列王、當時約蘭王出撒瑪利亞、核數以色列軍眾、遣人往見猶大王約沙法曰、摩押王叛我、爾與我偕往攻摩押、可乎、曰、可、我願往、爾我不分彼此、我民如爾民、我馬如爾馬、曰、當由何道而往、曰、由以東曠野之道、如是以色列王與猶大王及以東王偕往、繞道而行、歷程七日、軍旅與所攜之牲畜無水飲、以色列王曰、哀哉、主使我此三王至此、欲付我於摩押人手、約沙法曰、在此有主之先知否、如有、可藉之問主、以色列王之一臣對曰、昔事以利亞者、事以利亞者原文作傾水於以利亞之手者沙法子以利沙在此、約沙法曰、彼必奉有主命、於是以色列王與約沙法及以東王、俱往見之、以利沙謂以色列王曰、我與爾何與、可往問爾父之先知、及爾母之先知、以色列王曰、請勿如是言、主使我三王至此、欲付我於摩押人手、以利沙曰、我指所事萬有之永生主而誓、我若不顧猶大王約沙法之面、我必不視爾、不顧爾、今當為我召一彈琴者至、彈琴者彈琴、以利沙感於主之神、以利沙感於主之神原文作主之手臨之遂曰、主如是云、當在此谷中、多掘坑阱、蓋主如是云、雖不見風、亦不見雨、水必充滿此谷、使爾及牲畜有所飲、主視此猶為細事、亦將以摩押付於爾手、當毀諸保障與諸美城、伐諸嘉木、塞諸水源、以石擲諸良田、詰朝、獻祭時、自以東道有水忽至、充滿斯地、摩押人聞三王至、欲與之戰、則凡能披甲者、無論老少、悉集而立於邊界、及旦、摩押人興時、日照於水、水與摩押人相對、望之色紅如血、遂曰、此乃血也、三王彼此戰攻、自相擊殺、我摩押人、今可往奪貨財、乃至以色列營、以色列人起、攻摩押人、使之逃遁其前、從而追殺、殺入摩押境、傾毀其城邑、在諸良田、各擲石以填之、塞諸水源、伐諸嘉木、僅存吉哈拉薛石垣、發石之卒、環而攻之、摩押王見陣勢重大、難以抵禦、遂率拔刀之士卒七百、欲衝陣而過、至以東王所、但不得過焉、遂將當繼位之長子、在城上獻為火焚祭、以色列人遭此痛恨、或作以色列人俱懷大怒於是三王離摩押王各返故土、

亞述王撒縵以色來攻何西阿、何西阿臣服之而納貢焉、

當時殺摩押人約一萬、皆壯健之戰士、無一人逃脫、當日摩押族服以色列人、斯地太平、歷八十年、

摩押乃我之浴盤、以東乃我擲屣之地、我必因勝非利士國歡呼踴躍、

亞哈死後、摩押人叛以色列國、

使邑中民出、或置於鋸下、或置於碾穀之鐵具下、或置於鐵斧下、或使經行磚窰中、或作強其民或用鋸或用碾穀之鐵具或用鐵斧工作或使在磚窰中服役大衛待亞捫人諸邑之民俱如此、其後大衛與眾軍士歸耶路撒冷、

即如居幕之以東人、與以實瑪利族、摩押人與夏甲之後裔、
