I have discovered David, my servant. With my holy oil I have anointed him as king.My hand will support him, and my arm will strengthen him.No enemy will be able to exact tribute from him; a violent oppressor will not be able to humiliate him.I will crush his enemies before him; I will strike down those who hate him.He will experience my faithfulness and loyal love, and by my name he will win victories.I will place his hand over the sea, his right hand over the rivers.He will call out to me,‘ You are my father, my God, and the protector who delivers me.’I will appoint him to be my firstborn son, the most exalted of the earth’s kings.I will always extend my loyal love to him, and my covenant with him is secure.I will give him an eternal dynasty, and make his throne as enduring as the skies above.If his sons reject my law and disobey my regulations,if they break my rules and do not keep my commandments,I will punish their rebellion by beating them with a club, their sin by inflicting them with bruises.But I will not remove my loyal love from him, nor be unfaithful to my promise.I will not break my covenant or go back on what I promised.Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness, I will never deceive David.His dynasty will last forever. His throne will endure before me, like the sun,it will remain stable, like the moon, his throne will endure like the skies.”( Selah)

Be keenly aware that just as a parent disciplines his child, the LORD your God disciplines you.

For I, the LORD, affirm that I will be with you and will rescue you. I will completely destroy all the nations where I scattered you. But I will not completely destroy you. I will indeed discipline you, but only in due measure. I will not allow you to go entirely unpunished.”

And have you forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as sons?“ My son, do not scorn the Lord’s discipline or give up when he corrects you.“ For the Lord disciplines the one he loves and chastises every son he accepts.”Endure your suffering as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is there that a father does not discipline?But if you do not experience discipline, something all sons have shared in, then you are illegitimate and are not sons.Besides, we have experienced discipline from our earthly fathers and we respected them; shall we not submit ourselves all the more to the Father of spirits and receive life?For they disciplined us for a little while as seemed good to them, but he does so for our benefit, that we may share his holiness.Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. But later it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness for those trained by it.

“ Therefore, blessed is the man whom God corrects, so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.

And a voice from heaven said,“ This is my one dear Son; in him I take great delight.”

How blessed is the one whom you instruct, O LORD, the one whom you teach from your law,in order to protect him from times of trouble, until the wicked are destroyed.

My child, do not despise discipline from the LORD, and do not loathe his rebuke.For the LORD disciplines those he loves, just as a father disciplines the son in whom he delights.
