猶大人就來，在那裏膏立了大衛做王來管理猶大家。有人告訴大衛說：『埋葬掃羅的是基列雅比人。』

押尼珥對大衛說：『我要起身去集合以色列眾人來見我主我王，和你立約；你就可以照心願來掌王權』；於是大衛把押尼珥送走，押尼珥就安安然然去了。

於是耶弗他和基列的長老一同去，人民就立耶弗他做首領、做將軍、來管理他們；耶弗他將自己的一切話在米斯巴永恆主面前都說明出來。

於是以色列眾長老都來到希伯崙見大衛王；大衛在希伯崙永恆主面前和他們立約，他們就膏立了大衛為王來管理以色列，正如永恆主的話、由撒母耳經手所說的。

你去聚集以色列的長老，對他們說：「永恆主、你們祖宗的上帝、亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各的上帝、向我顯現，說：『我實在鑒察了你們；你們在埃及怎樣受虐待、我都鑒察了。

眾民就都到吉甲去，便在吉甲那裏、永恆主面前設立了掃羅為王；也在那裏在永恆主面前獻平安祭；在那裏掃羅和以色列眾人都非常歡喜。

鑑於這一切的事，我們便立了確定不移的約字，寫明了它；我們的首領、我們的利未人和祭司、都蓋了印。

耶何耶大使眾民和王與自己之間立了約，要做永恆主的人民。
