They brought the head of Ish- Bosheth to David at Hebron and said to the king,“ Here is the head of Ish- Bosheth son of Saul, your enemy, who tried to kill you. This day the Lord has avenged my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.”

They brought Ish-bosheth’s head to David at Hebron and said to the king,“ Here’s the head of Ish-bosheth son of Saul, your enemy who intended to take your life. Today the LORD has granted vengeance to my lord the king against Saul and his offspring.”

Then they brought the head of Ish bosheth to David at Hebron, and said to the king,“ Behold, the head of Ish bosheth the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life; so the Lord has given my lord the king vengeance this day on Saul and his descendants.”

And they brought the head of Ishbosheth to David at Hebron, and said to the king,“ Here is the head of Ishbosheth, the son of Saul your enemy, who sought your life; and the Lord has avenged my Lord the king this day of Saul and his descendants.”

And they brought the head of Ish- bosheth unto David to Hebron, and said to the king, Behold, the head of Ish- bosheth, the son of Saul, thine enemy, who sought thy life; and Jehovah hath avenged my lord the king this day of Saul, and of his seed.

If men rise up to pursue you and to seek your life, the life of my lord shall be bound in the bundle of the living in the care of the Lord your God. And the lives of your enemies he shall sling out as from the hollow of a sling.

David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh.

Then Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying,“ Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.”

And the men of David said to him,“ Here is the day of which the Lord said to you,‘ Behold, I will give your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose and stealthily cut off a corner of Saul’s robe.

And Saul hurled the spear, for he thought,“ I will pin David to the wall.” But David evaded him twice.

Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said,“ Let me run and carry news to the king that the Lord has delivered him from the hand of his enemies.”

And Jonathan told David,“ Saul my father seeks to kill you. Therefore be on your guard in the morning. Stay in a secret place and hide yourself.And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak to my father about you. And if I learn anything I will tell you.”And Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him,“ Let not the king sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have brought good to you.For he took his life in his hand and he struck down the Philistine, and the Lord worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood by killing David without cause?”And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore,“ As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.”And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.And there was war again. And David went out and fought with the Philistines and struck them with a great blow, so that they fled before him.Then a harmful spirit from the Lord came upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his spear in his hand. And David was playing the lyre.And Saul sought to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he eluded Saul, so that he struck the spear into the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him, that he might kill him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, told him,“ If you do not escape with your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”

Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!”

And behold, the Cushite came, and the Cushite said,“ Good news for my lord the king! For the Lord has delivered you this day from the hand of all who rose up against you.”

saying,“ Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child’s life are dead.”

They cried out with a loud voice,“ O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”

But those who seek to destroy my life shall go down into the depths of the earth;they shall be given over to the power of the sword; they shall be a portion for jackals.

the God who gave me vengeance and brought down peoples under me,

And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought to do me hurt.

Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah and came and said before Jonathan,“ What have I done? What is my guilt? And what is my sin before your father, that he seeks my life?”
