押尼珥聞言、怒甚、曰、我豈為猶大之犬首乎、我厚待爾父掃羅家、及其兄弟友朋、不以爾付於大衛手、今日乃以此婦罪我、

押尼耳怒曰、我不從猶大族、惟助爾父掃羅家、及其戚屬友朋、不陷爾於大闢手、爾反視我若犬首、今日乃為此女詰責我乎。

Abner was very angry because of what Ish- Bosheth said. So he answered,“ Am I a dog’s head— on Judah’s side? This very day I am loyal to the house of your father Saul and to his family and friends. I haven’t handed you over to David. Yet now you accuse me of an offense involving this woman!

To this day I keep showing steadfast love to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not given you into the hand of David. And yet you charge me today with a fault concerning a woman.

Abner was furious.“ Am I some Judean dog to be kicked around like this?” he shouted.“ After all I have done for your father, Saul, and his family and friends by not handing you over to David, is this my reward— that you find fault with me about this woman?

Then Abner became very angry over Ish bosheth’s question and said,“ Am I a dog’s head that belongs to Judah? Today I show kindness to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers and to his friends, and have not let you fall into the hands of David; yet today you call me to account for wrongdoing with that woman?

Then Abner became very angry at the words of Ishbosheth, and said,“ Am I a dog’s head that belongs to Judah? Today I show loyalty to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and you charge me today with a fault concerning this woman?

Then was Abner very wroth for the words of Ish- bosheth, and said, Am I a dog’s head that belongeth to Judah? This day do I show kindness unto the house of Saul thy father, to his brethren, and to his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David; and yet thou chargest me this day with a fault concerning this woman.

These words of Ish-bosheth really angered Abner and he said,“ Am I the head of a dog that belongs to Judah? This very day I am demonstrating loyalty to the house of Saul your father and to his relatives and his friends! I have not betrayed you into the hand of David. Yet you have accused me of sinning with this woman today!

Then Abner was very angry about Ishbosheth’s words, and said,“ Am I a dog’s head that belongs to Judah? Today I show kindness to Saul’s house your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and yet you charge me today with a fault concerning this woman!

Mephibosheth paid homage and said,“ What is your servant that you take an interest in a dead dog like me?”

Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king,“ Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and remove his head!”

Who is it you have mocked and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice and lifted your eyes in pride? Against the Holy One of Israel!

Even while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led us out to battle and brought us back. The LORD also said to you,‘ You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be ruler over Israel.’”

Now take action, because the LORD has spoken concerning David:‘ Through my servant David I will save my people Israel from the power of the Philistines and the power of all Israel’s enemies.’”

Who has the king of Israel come after? What are you chasing after? A dead dog? A single flea?May the LORD be judge and decide between you and me. May he take notice and plead my case and deliver me from you.”

May God punish Abner and do so severely if I don’t do for David what the LORD swore to him:

Do not bring a female prostitute’s wages or a male prostitute’s earnings into the house of the LORD your God to fulfill any vow, because both are detestable to the LORD your God.
