King David sang a song of sadness over Abner. He said,“ Should Abner have died as sinful people do?

And the king lamented for Abner, saying,“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

and the king sang a lament for Abner: Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king sang a song of mourning for Abner and said,“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king sang a lament over Abner and said:“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king lamented for Abner, and said, Should Abner die as a fool dieth?

and the king sang a lament for Abner: Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?

The king chanted the following lament for Abner:“ Should Abner have died like a fool?

The king lamented for Abner, and said,“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

“ No, my brother!” she cried.“ Don’t be foolish! Don’t do this to me! Such wicked things aren’t done in Israel.Where could I go in my shame? And you would be called one of the greatest fools in Israel. Please, just speak to the king about it, and he will let you marry me.”

Then David composed a funeral song for Saul and Jonathan,

Absalom told his men,“ Wait until Amnon gets drunk; then at my signal, kill him! Don’t be afraid. I’m the one who has given the command. Take courage and do it!”So at Absalom’s signal they murdered Amnon. Then the other sons of the king jumped on their mules and fled.

Like a partridge that hatches eggs she has not laid, so are those who get their wealth by unjust means. At midlife they will lose their riches; in the end, they will become poor old fools.

The prophet Jeremiah composed funeral songs for Josiah, and to this day choirs still sing these sad songs about his death. These songs of sorrow have become a tradition and are recorded in The Book of Laments.

And I’ll sit back and say to myself,“ My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’

Both will die. So I said to myself,“ Since I will end up the same as the fool, what’s the value of all my wisdom? This is all so meaningless!”For the wise and the foolish both die. The wise will not be remembered any longer than the fool. In the days to come, both will be forgotten.

The mouths of fools are their ruin; they trap themselves with their lips.
