The king chanted the following lament for Abner:“ Should Abner have died like a fool?

王又为押尼珥作了哀歌，说：“难道押尼珥死去，要像愚妄的人死去一样吗？

王為押尼珥舉哀，說：押尼珥何竟像愚頑人死呢？

王為押尼珥舉哀，說：押尼珥怎麼會像愚頑人一樣地死呢？

大衛王哀悼押尼珥，說：「押尼珥啊！你怎能死得糊里糊塗呢？

王為押尼耳作悲歌曰、押尼耳之死、豈若罪犯哉。

王弔押尼珥曰、押尼珥死、何竟如愚妄者死乎、

The king sang this lament for Abner:“ Should Abner have died as the lawless die?

King David sang a song of sadness over Abner. He said,“ Should Abner have died as sinful people do?

And the king lamented for Abner, saying,“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

Then the king sang this funeral song for Abner:“ Should Abner have died as fools die?

and the king sang a lament for Abner: Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king sang a song of mourning for Abner and said,“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king sang a lament over Abner and said:“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king lamented for Abner, and said, Should Abner die as a fool dieth?

and the king sang a lament for Abner: Should Abner die as a fool dies?

And the king lamented over Abner, and said, Died Abner as a fool dieth?

The king lamented for Abner, and said,“ Should Abner die as a fool dies?

But she said to him,“ No, my brother! Don’t humiliate me! This just isn’t done in Israel! Don’t do this foolish thing!How could I ever be rid of my humiliation? And you would be considered one of the fools in Israel! Just speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.”

Then David chanted this lament over Saul and his son Jonathan.

Absalom instructed his servants,“ Look! When Amnon is drunk and I say to you,‘ Strike Amnon down,’ kill him then and there. Don’t fear! Is it not I who have given you these instructions? Be strong and courageous!”So Absalom’s servants did to Amnon exactly what Absalom had instructed. Then all the king’s sons got up; each one rode away on his mule and fled.

The person who gathers wealth by unjust means is like the partridge that broods over eggs but does not hatch them. Before his life is half over he will lose his ill-gotten gains. At the end of his life it will be clear he was a fool.”

Jeremiah composed laments for Josiah which all the male and female singers use to mourn Josiah to this very day. It has become customary in Israel to sing these; they are recorded in the Book of Laments.

And I will say to myself,“ You have plenty of goods stored up for many years; relax, eat, drink, celebrate!”’But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you, but who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

So I thought to myself,“ The fate of the fool will happen even to me! Then what did I gain by becoming so excessively wise?” So I lamented to myself,“ The benefits of wisdom are ultimately meaningless!”For the wise man, like the fool, will not be remembered for very long, because in the days to come, both will already have been forgotten. Alas, the wise man dies– just like the fool!

The mouth of a fool is his ruin, and his lips are a snare for his life.
