耶和华对撒母耳说：“你为扫罗悲恸要到什么时候呢？我已经厌弃他作以色列的王。你把犄角装满膏油，去吧，我要派遣你到伯利恒人耶西那里，因为我在他的儿子中选定了一个王。”

不过甚至是首领当中也有许多信耶稣的。但是为了法利赛人的缘故，他们不敢承认，免得被赶出会堂，这是因为他们喜爱人的荣耀，胜过喜爱神的荣耀。

那时你在异象中对你的忠信者宣告，说：“我帮助了一位勇士，高举了那从民中所拣选的。我找到我的仆人大卫，用我圣洁的膏油膏抹了他。我的手必坚定地与他同在，我的膀臂也必使他稳固。仇敌不能毁灭他，不义之子也不能苦待他。我要在他面前打碎他的敌人，我要击打那些恨他的人。

但如今，你的王权不会长久了，耶和华已经为自己找到一个合乎他心意的人，耶和华任命这人作他子民的领袖，因为你不遵守耶和华吩咐你的。”
