Now do it! For the Lord promised David,‘ By my servant David I will rescue my people Israel from the hand of the Philistines and from the hand of all their enemies.’”

耶西就派人去把大衛帶回來。他面色紅潤，眼目清秀，外貌英俊。耶和華說：“就是這一個，你起來膏立他吧！”撒母耳就拿起盛油的角，在他的兄長中膏立他。從那天起，耶和華的靈就大大感動大衛。後來撒母耳動身往拉瑪去了。

耶和華對撒母耳說：“你為掃羅悲哀要到幾時呢？我已經棄絕他作以色列的王了。你把膏油盛滿了角，然後去吧！我要差派你到伯利恆人耶西那裡去，因為我在他的眾子中，已經預定了一個為我作王。”

雖然這樣，官長當中也有許多人信了耶穌。但是因為法利賽人的緣故，他們不敢公開承認，免得被趕出會堂；因為他們愛來自人的榮耀，過於愛來自神的榮耀。

那時，你在異象中告訴你的聖民說：“我幫助了一位勇士，我從民中興起了一位青年（“我從民中興起了一位青年”或譯：“我興起那從民中所揀選的”）。我找到我的僕人大衛，用我的聖膏油膏他。我的手必堅立他，我的膀臂必堅固他。仇敵必不能欺騙他，兇惡的人必不能壓迫他。我要在他的面前擊碎他的敵人，擊殺那些恨他的人。

但現在你的王位必不長久，耶和華已經為自己找到一個合他心意的人，立他作自己子民的領袖，因為你沒有謹守耶和華所吩咐你的。”
