你們要撕裂你們的心腸，不要撕裂你們的衣服。並要歸向耶和華你們的神，因為他有恩典有憐憫，不輕易發怒，並且有豐盛的慈愛，隨時轉意不降災禍。有誰知道或許他會轉意，並且施慈愛，留下餘福，就是留下獻給耶和華你們的神的素祭和奠祭。

於是，耶和華後悔造人在地上，心中憂傷。

因為耶和華要走遍各處擊打埃及人；他一看見門楣和兩邊的門柱上有血，就越過那門，不讓那毀滅者進入你們的房屋來擊殺你們。

“我後悔立了掃羅為王，因為他已經離去不跟隨我，也不執行我的命令了。”撒母耳非常忿怒，整夜哀求耶和華。

他不歸榮耀給神，所以主的使者立刻擊打他，他被蟲咬，就斷了氣。

那天晚上，耶和華的使者出去，在亞述軍營殺了十八萬五千人。早上，他們起來的時候，看哪，到處都是死屍。

耶和華就差派一位使者，進入亞述王的軍營中，把所有英勇的戰士、官長和將帥，盡都消滅了。亞述王滿面羞愧返回本國去了。他進入自己的神廟的時候，他親生的兒子在那裡用刀把他殺了。

所羅門在耶路撒冷，在耶和華向他父親大衛顯現過的摩利亞山上，就是在耶布斯人阿珥楠的禾場上，大衛預備的地方，開工建造耶和華的殿。

這血要在你們居住的房屋上作你們的記號；我擊打埃及地的時候，一看見這血，就越過你們去，災禍必不臨到你們身上毀滅你們。

耶和華啊！要到幾時呢？求你回心轉意，求你憐恤你的僕人。

因為耶和華要為自己的子民伸冤，他要憐憫自己的僕人。

這樣的人受了許多人的責備，也就夠了，

願他們的路又暗又滑，有耶和華的使者追趕他們。

以及耶布斯人、亞摩利人、革迦撒人、

他自己卻在曠野走了一天的路，來到一棵羅騰樹下，就坐在那裡求死，說：“耶和華啊，現在已經夠了，求你取我的性命吧，因為我並不比我的列祖好。”

至於住在耶路撒冷的耶布斯人，猶大人不能把他們趕走；所以耶布斯人在耶路撒冷與猶大人同住，直到今日。

我必不永遠爭辯，也不長久發怒，因為這樣，人的靈，就是我所造的人，在我面前就要發昏。

那一天大衛說：“攻打耶布斯人的，要把大衛心中恨惡的‘瞎子’和‘瘸子’丟進水溝裡。”因此有句俗語說：“瞎眼的或瘸腿的，都不能進殿裡。”

你們的神說：“你們要安慰，要安慰我的子民！你們要向耶路撒冷說慈愛的話，又要向它宣告：他們的苦難已經滿足了，他們的罪孽已經還清了，他們因著自己的一切罪，已經從耶和華的手裡受到過重的刑罰。”

不，你只是漸漸地，藉著他們被擄與他們相爭；在吹東風的日子，就用暴風把他們逐去。

耶和華對這事改變心意。主耶和華說：“這事也不會發生。”

便雅憫人沒有趕走住在耶路撒冷的耶布斯人，所以耶布斯人與便雅憫人一同住在耶路撒冷，直到今日。

他卻有憐憫，赦免罪孽，沒有把他們滅絕，並且多次抑制自己的怒氣，沒有完全宣洩他的烈怒。

他們走近耶布斯的時候，日頭快要落了；僕人對主人說：“來，讓我們轉到這耶布斯人的城去，好在那裡住宿。”

神差派一位使者到耶路撒冷去，要毀滅那城；正要施行毀滅的時候，耶和華看見了，就後悔所要降的這災，於是對施行毀滅的天使說：“夠了！住手吧！”那時，耶和華的使者正站在耶布斯人阿珥楠的禾場附近。大衛舉目看見耶和華的使者站在天地之間，手裡拿著出了鞘的刀，指向耶路撒冷。大衛和眾長老都穿上麻布，臉伏於地。

耶穌第三次回來，對他們說：“你們還在睡覺休息嗎？夠了，時候到了，看哪，人子要被交在罪人手裡了。

請你們祈求耶和華吧，因為這雷聲和冰雹已經夠了；我決意讓你們離開，你們不可再留在這裡。”

我必除去他們口中的血，和他們牙齒間可憎之物。餘剩下來的人要歸於我們的神，像猶大的一族；以革倫人也必像耶布斯人一樣。

耶和華對這事改變心意，耶和華說：“這事不會發生。”

我甚麼時候宣布要拔出、拆毀、毀滅一邦或一國，如果我論到的那一邦轉離他們的惡行，我就必回心轉意，不把我原定的災禍降給他們。同樣，我甚麼時候宣布要建立、栽植一邦或一國，如果他們行我眼中看為惡的事，不聽從我的話，我就必回心轉意，不把我應許的好處賜給他們。

那一天，迦得來見大衛，對他說：“你上去，在耶布斯人亞勞拿的打禾場那裡，為耶和華立一座祭壇。”

耶和華啊！我聽見你的聲音，懼怕你的作為；求你在這些年間復興，在這些年間彰顯，發怒的時候以憐憫為懷。

於是，耶和華改變初衷，不把他所說的禍降在他的人民身上。
