迦得遂來見大衛、謂之曰、或爾國中饑饉七年、或爾遁於敵前、敵逐爾三月、或於爾國中有瘟疫三日、此三者爾何擇、今爾思而視之、明以告我、俾我歸而復命於遣我者、

“ Go and tell David,‘ This is what the Lord says: I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.’”

“ Go and tell David,‘ The Lord says,“ I could punish you in three different ways. Choose one of them for me to use against you.” ’ ”

“ Go and say to David,‘ Thus says the Lord, Three things I offer you. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.’”

You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken Uriah the Hittite’s wife to be your wife.’

“ Go and speak to David, saying,‘ Yahweh says,“ I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.”’”So Gad came to David, and said to him,“ Yahweh says,‘ Take your choice:

I also walked contrary to them, and brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled, and they then accept the punishment of their iniquity,

As many as I love, I reprove and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent.

“ Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.For he wounds and binds up. He injures and his hands make whole.

The land also will be left by them, and will enjoy its Sabbaths while it lies desolate without them; and they will accept the punishment of their iniquity because they rejected my ordinances, and their soul abhorred my statutes.

for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline?But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not children.Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?For they indeed, for a few days, punished us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

for whom Yahweh loves, he corrects, even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.

However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to Yahweh’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you will surely die.”
