In Israel, prophets used to be called seers. So if someone wanted to ask God for advice, they would say,“ Come on. Let’s go to the seer.”

But the prophet Gad spoke to David. He said,“ Don’t stay in your usual place of safety. Go into the land of Judah.” So David left and went to the forest of Hereth.

The events of King David’s rule from beginning to end are written down. They are written in the records of Samuel, Nathan and Gad, the prophets.
