The Lord’s anger burned against Israel again, and He stirred up David against them to say:“ Go, count the people of Israel and Judah.”

Again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying,“ Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.”

The Lord was very angry with Israel. He stirred up David against them. He said,“ Go! Count the men of Israel and Judah.”

Again the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying,“ Go, number Israel and Judah.”

Once again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and he caused David to harm them by taking a census.“ Go and count the people of Israel and Judah,” the Lord told him.

The LORD’s anger burned against Israel again, and he stirred up David against them to say,“ Go, count the people of Israel and Judah.”

Now the anger of the Lord burned against Israel again, and He incited David against them to say,“ Go, count Israel and Judah.”

Again the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel, and He moved David against them to say,“ Go, number Israel and Judah.”

And again the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah.

And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

The LORD’s anger again raged against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying,“ Go count Israel and Judah.”

Again Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying,“ Go, count Israel and Judah.”

David didn’t count the men aged 20 or under, for the Lord had said He would make Israel as numerous as the stars of heaven.Joab son of Zeruiah began to count them, but he didn’t complete it. There was wrath against Israel because of this census, and the number was not entered in the Historical Record of King David.

Satan stood up against Israel and incited David to count the people of Israel.

No one undergoing a trial should say,“ I am being tempted by God.” For God is not tempted by evil, and He Himself doesn’t tempt anyone.But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires.

“ But if the prophet is deceived and speaks a message, it was I, Yahweh, who deceived that prophet. I will stretch out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.

“ This is what the Lord says,‘ I am going to bring disaster on you from your own family: I will take your wives and give them to another before your very eyes, and he will sleep with them publicly.

And the Lord said,‘ Who will entice Ahab to march up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ So one was saying this and another was saying that.“ Then a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord, and said,‘ I will entice him.’“ The Lord asked him,‘ How?’“ He said,‘ I will go and become a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’“ Then He said,‘ You will certainly entice him and prevail. Go and do that.’“ You see, the Lord has put a lying spirit into the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the Lord has pronounced disaster against you.”

During David’s reign there was a famine for three successive years, so David inquired of the Lord. The Lord answered,“ It is because of the blood shed by Saul and his family when he killed the Gibeonites.”The Gibeonites were not Israelites but rather a remnant of the Amorites. The Israelites had taken an oath concerning them, but Saul had tried to kill them in his zeal for the Israelites and Judah. So David summoned the Gibeonites and spoke to them.He asked the Gibeonites,“ What should I do for you? How can I make atonement so that you will bring a blessing on the Lord’s inheritance?”The Gibeonites said to him,“ We are not asking for money from Saul or his family, and we cannot put anyone to death in Israel.”“ Whatever you say, I will do for you,” he said.They replied to the king,“ As for the man who annihilated us and plotted to destroy us so we would not exist within the whole territory of Israel,let seven of his male descendants be handed over to us so we may hang them in the presence of the Lord at Gibeah of Saul, the Lord’s chosen.” The king answered,“ I will hand them over.”David spared Mephibosheth, the son of Saul’s son Jonathan, because of the oath of the Lord that was between David and Jonathan, Saul’s son.But the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, who were the two sons whom Rizpah daughter of Aiah had borne to Saul, and the five sons whom Merab daughter of Saul had borne to Adriel son of Barzillai the Meholathiteand handed them over to the Gibeonites. They hanged them on the hill in the presence of the Lord; the seven of them died together. They were executed in the first days of the harvest at the beginning of the barley harvest.Rizpah, Aiah’s daughter, took sackcloth and spread it out for herself on the rock from the beginning of the harvest until the rain poured down from heaven on the bodies. She kept the birds of the sky from them by day and the wild animals by night.When it was reported to David what Saul’s concubine Rizpah, daughter of Aiah, had done,he went and got the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan from the leaders of Jabesh-gilead. They had stolen them from the public square of Beth-shan where the Philistines had hung the bodies the day the Philistines killed Saul at Gilboa.David had the bones brought from there. They gathered up the bones of Saul’s family who had been hungand buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan at Zela in the land of Benjamin in the tomb of Saul’s father Kish. They did everything the king commanded. After this, God answered prayer for the land.

You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result— the survival of many people.

Now, may my lord the king please hear the words of his servant: If it is the Lord who has incited you against me, then may He accept an offering. But if it is people, may they be cursed in the presence of the Lord, for today they have driven me away from sharing in the inheritance of the Lord saying,‘ Go and worship other gods.’

And now don’t be worried or angry with yourselves for selling me here, because God sent me ahead of you to preserve life.

I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances they could not live by.

For this reason God sends them a strong delusion so that they will believe what is false,

But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart and multiply My signs and wonders in the land of Egypt.

to do whatever Your hand and Your plan had predestined to take place.

The king replied,“ Sons of Zeruiah, do we agree on anything? He curses me this way because the Lord told him,‘ Curse David!’ Therefore, who can say,‘ Why did you do that?’”
