現在斧頭已經放在樹根上，所有不結好果子的樹，就砍下來，丟在火裡。我用水給你們施洗，表示你們悔改；但在我以後要來的那一位，能力比我更大，我就是替他提鞋也沒有資格。他要用聖靈與火給你們施洗。他手裡拿著簸箕，要揚淨麥場，把麥子收進倉裡，卻用不滅的火把糠秕燒盡。”

他本國的人卻恨他，就派使者跟著去說：‘我們不願意這個人作王統治我們。’

那時大地搖撼震動，天的根基也都搖動；它們搖撼，是因為耶和華發怒。濃煙從他的鼻孔往上冒，烈火從他的口中噴出來，連炭也燒著了。他使天下垂，親自降臨；在他的腳下黑雲密布。

丟進火爐，在那裡必要哀哭切齒。

人若不住在我裡面，就像枝子丟在外面枯乾了，人把它們拾起來，丟在火裡燒掉了。

那時，這不法的人必要顯露出來。主耶穌要用自己口中的氣除掉他，以自己再來所顯現的光輝消滅他。

我再沒有忿怒，若荊棘和蒺藜與我交戰，我就上前踐踏它們，把它們全部焚毀。

又要報應那些不認識神、不聽從我們主耶穌的福音的人。
