亞捫人見亞蘭人逃跑，也從亞比篩面前逃跑，逃進城裡。於是約押從亞捫人那裡撤離，回到耶路撒冷。

大衛分派軍兵，三分之一在約押手下，三分之一在洗魯雅的兒子約押的弟弟亞比篩手下，三分之一在迦特人伊太手下。王對軍兵說：「我也必定與你們一同出戰。」

當時洗魯雅的三個兒子約押、亞比篩和亞撒暉都在那裡。亞撒暉腿腳敏捷，如同野羚羊。

亞瑪撒沒有防備約押手中的刀，約押用那刀刺入他的腹部，他的內臟流在地上；都不用刺第二刀，他就死了。約押和他弟弟亞比篩繼續追趕比基利的兒子示巴。

約押和他弟弟亞比篩殺押尼珥，是因他在基遍戰場上殺了他們的弟弟亞撒暉。

大衛就問赫提人亞希米勒以及洗魯雅的兒子、約押的弟弟亞比篩，說：「誰與我一起下到營地中掃羅那裡？」亞比篩回答：「我與你一同下去。」夜間大衛和亞比篩來到軍兵那裡，看哪，掃羅正躺在行營中沉睡，他的長矛插在枕頭旁的地上，押尼珥和軍兵睡在他四圍。亞比篩對大衛說：「今天神把你的仇敵交在你手中了。現在，請讓我用長矛把他一槍刺透在地，不用第二槍。」
