And he said, Be it far from me, O Jehovah, that I should do this: shall I drink the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.

David said,“ Lord, I would never do such a thing! Is this not the blood of men who risked their lives?” So he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three warriors.

And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this:[ is not this] the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

and said,“ O LORD, I will not do this! It is equivalent to the blood of the men who risked their lives by going.” So he refused to drink it. Such were the exploits of the three elite warriors.

He said,“ Be it far from me, Yahweh, that I should do this! Isn’t this the blood of the men who risked their lives to go?” Therefore he would not drink it. The three mighty men did these things.

“ And if any native Israelite or foreigner living among you eats or drinks blood in any form, I will turn against that person and cut him off from the community of your people,

And why should we ourselves risk our lives hour by hour?

But you must never eat any meat that still has the lifeblood in it.

He will redeem them from oppression and violence, for their lives are precious to him.

But Zebulun risked his life, as did Naphtali, on the heights of the battlefield.

“ Therefore, the Lord, the God of Israel, says: I promised that your branch of the tribe of Levi would always be my priests. But I will honor those who honor me, and I will despise those who think lightly of me.

for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many.

The Lord forbid that I should kill the one he has anointed! But take his spear and that jug of water beside his head, and then let’s get out of here!”

But Naboth replied,“ The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance that was passed down by my ancestors.”

And Joab replied,“ Believe me, I don’t want to devour or destroy your town!

And he said to them,“ This is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice for many.

Then the people began arguing with each other about what he meant.“ How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked.So Jesus said again,“ I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you.But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day.

“ No,” Joseph said.“ I would never do such a thing! Only the man who stole the cup will be my slave. The rest of you may go back to your father in peace.”
