三十個領袖中的三個人下到磐石那裏，進了亞杜蘭洞見大衛；非利士的軍隊在利乏音谷安營。那時大衛在山寨，非利士人的駐軍在伯利恆。大衛渴想着說：「但願有人從伯利恆城門旁的井裏打水來給我喝！」這三個勇士就闖過非利士人的軍營，從伯利恆城門旁的井裏打水，拿來給大衛喝。大衛卻不肯喝，將水澆在耶和華面前，說：「我的神啊，我絕不做這事！這些人冒死去打水，這水是他們用生命換來的，我怎能喝他們的血呢？」大衛不肯喝這水。這是三個勇士所做的事。
