The Egyptians tried to escape, but the Lord swept them into the sea.

He commanded the Red Sea to dry up. He led Israel across the sea as if it were a desert.

I said,‘ This far and no farther will you come. Here your proud waves must stop!’

The surging waters stood straight like a wall; in the heart of the sea the deep waters became hard.“ The enemy boasted,‘ I will chase them and catch up with them. I will plunder them and consume them. I will flash my sword; my powerful hand will destroy them.’But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

O God, why have you rejected us so long? Why is your anger so intense against the sheep of your own pasture?
