That’s because he wanted to make Israel and Judah strong. So now King David sent for the people of Gibeon and spoke to them.

So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not of the people of Israel but of the remnant of the Amorites. Although the people of Israel had sworn to spare them, Saul had sought to strike them down in his zeal for the people of Israel and Judah.

但是基遍的居民聽見了約書亞向耶利哥和艾城所行的事，他們也就設了詭計，自備乾糧，拿舊口袋和破裂修補的舊皮酒袋給驢馱着，將舊而補過的鞋穿在腳上，把舊的衣服穿在身上；他們做乾糧的餅都乾硬破碎。他們到了吉甲營中見約書亞，對他和以色列人說：『我們是從遠地來的；現在求你和我們立約。』以色列人對這些希未人說：『只怕你們是住在我們中間的，那我們怎能和你們立約呢？』他們對約書亞說：『我們願做你的僕人。』約書亞問他們說：『你們是甚麼人？是從哪裏來的？』他們對他說：『你僕人是為了永恆主你的上帝至大之名就從很遠之地而來的；因為我們聽見了他的名聲：他在埃及所行的一切事，以及他對約但河東邊的亞摩利人兩個王、對希實本王西宏、對在亞斯他錄的巴珊王噩——所行一切的事。因此、我們的長老和我們那地所有的居民對我們說：「你們手裏要帶着路上用的乾糧、去迎接以色列人，對他們說：我們願做你們的僕人；現在求你們和我們立約。我們出來、要到你們這裏來的日子、從家裏帶出來自備做乾糧的這餅還是熱的；現在你看，都乾硬破碎了。這些皮酒袋、我們盛酒時還是新的；你看，都破裂了；我們這些衣裳和鞋、因為道路很長，也都破舊了。」』以色列人取了他們一些乾糧，並沒有求問永恆主怎樣吩咐。於是約書亞竟跟他們講和，與他們立約，容他們活着；會眾的首領也向他們起誓。以色列人和他們立約之後、過了三天、才聽說他們是自己的近鄰，是住在自己中間的。以色列人就往前行，第三天到了他們的城市；他們的城市就是基遍、基非拉、比錄、基列耶琳。但是以色列人不擊殺他們，因為會眾的首領曾經指着永恆主以色列的上帝向他們起了誓；全會眾就向首領們發怨言。眾首領對全會眾說：『我們曾經指着永恆主以色列的上帝向他們起了誓；現在我們不能觸害他們。我們要這樣處置他們，容他們活着，免得有上帝的震怒因我們向他們起的誓、而臨到我們身上。』首領們對會眾說：『要容他們活着。』於是他們給全會眾做撿柴打水的人，正如首領們所說到他們的。

那些人拿熱心待你們，原不是好意，乃是想要把你們關在外面，叫你們拿熱心待他們罷了。

人必將你們革出會堂；不但如此，時候必到，凡殺你們的、且要以為是獻事奉與上帝呢！

耶戶說：『你跟我一同去，看我為永恆主怎樣發妒愛熱情。』就請他同他坐車。

永恆主你的上帝所交給你的別族之民、你要把他們除滅掉；你的眼不可顧惜他們；你也不可事奉他們的神，因為這會餌誘你入於網羅。

掃羅說：『約拿單哪，你必須死；若不然，願上帝這樣懲罰，並且加倍地懲罰。』

他的門徒雅各約翰看見了，就說：『主啊，你願意我們吩咐火從天上降下來，燒滅他們麼？』耶穌轉過身來責備他們。就往別的村莊去了。

活活捉住亞瑪力王亞甲，把亞瑪力的眾民都用刀殺滅歸神。掃羅和眾民顧惜亞甲，也顧惜最好的羊、牛、就是那肥美的、又顧惜羊羔、以及一切美物，不情願盡行毁滅歸神；只有人所賤視鄙棄的一切羣畜、他們才殺滅歸神。

但是耶戶對永恆主以色列上帝的律法並不盡心謹慎遵行，不離開耶羅波安的罪、耶羅波安使以色列人犯的那罪。

我可以給他們作證，他們對上帝倒有熱心，只是不按着真認識罷了。
