大衛對那非利士人說：『你來對我迎戰、是靠着刀矛短槍；我來對你迎戰、是靠着萬軍之永恆主耶和華的名、以色列陣營的上帝、就是你所辱罵的。今天永恆主必將你送交我手；我必擊殺你，取下你的頭；今天我必將非利士人軍兵的屍首給空中的飛鳥和地上的野獸喫；使全地都知道以色列有上帝；又使這大眾都知道永恆主使人得勝、不是用刀用矛；因為爭戰的勝敗全在於永恆主；他必將你們交在我們手裏。』那非利士人就起身、走着走着、走近前來、要和大衛接戰；大衛也趕快向陣上跑、要和那非利士人接戰。大衛伸手到口袋中，從那裏拿出一塊石子來，用機弦甩去，正擊中了那非利士人的額上；石子沉進額內，那人就仆倒，臉伏於地。這樣、大衛強過那非利士人、是用甩機弦和石子；大衛擊中了那非利士人、而殺死他，手中並沒有刀。大衛跑去、站在那非利士人旁邊，將他的刀拔出鞘來，殺死他，用刀割了他的頭。非利士眾人看見他們的勇士死了，就都逃跑。

這族之民又大、又多、又高、像亞衲人一樣；永恆主從亞捫人面前消滅他們，把他們趕出，亞捫人便接替他們住在那裏；

我們上哪裏去呢？我們的族弟兄使我們膽戰心驚、說：『那地的人民比我們又大又高；他們的城邑又大又堅固，高得頂天；並且我們還看見亞衲人在那裏呢。』」

非利士人來了，在利乏音山谷中四散侵掠。
