大衛就派使者到基列的雅比人那裏，對他們說：「願耶和華賜福給你們！因為你們忠心對待你們的主掃羅，埋葬了他。你們既做了這事，願耶和華以慈愛和信實待你們，我也要為此厚待你們。現在，你們的主掃羅死了，猶大家也已經膏我作他們的王，你們的手要堅強，要作英勇的人。」

次日，非利士人來剝那些被殺之人的衣服，看見掃羅和他兒子仆倒在基利波山。
