Then the woman went to all the people with her wise advice, and they cut off the head of Sheba son of Bikri and threw it to Joab. So he sounded the trumpet, and his men dispersed from the city, each returning to his home. And Joab went back to the king in Jerusalem.

我见日光之下有一样智慧，在我看来是伟大的，就是有一人口稀少的小城，遇大君王前来攻击，修筑营垒，将城围困。城中有一个贫穷的智慧人，他用智慧救了那城，却没有人记念那穷人。我就说，智慧胜过勇力；然而那贫穷人的智慧被人藐视，他的话也无人听从。宁可听智慧人安静的话语，不听掌权者在愚昧人中的喊声。智慧胜过打仗的兵器；但一个罪人能败坏许多善事。

这事以后，大卫听见了，说：“流尼珥儿子押尼珥的血，我和我的国在耶和华面前永远是无辜的。愿这血归到约押头上和他父的全家；又愿约押家不断有患漏症的，长麻风的，架拐杖而行的，仆倒在刀下的，缺乏食物的。”约押和他弟弟亚比筛杀了押尼珥，是因为在基遍战争的时候，押尼珥杀了他们的弟弟亚撒黑。大卫对约押和跟随他的众百姓说：“你们当撕裂衣服，腰束麻布，在押尼珥前面哀哭。”大卫王也跟在棺木后面。他们把押尼珥葬在希伯仑。王在押尼珥的墓旁放声大哭，众百姓也都哭了。王为押尼珥举哀，说：押尼珥怎么会像愚顽人一样地死呢？你手未曾被捆绑，脚未曾被脚镣锁住。你仆倒，如仆倒在凶恶之子手下一样。于是众百姓又为押尼珥哀哭。白天的时候，众百姓来劝大卫吃饭，但大卫起誓说：“我若在太阳未下山以前吃饭，或吃任何东西，愿上帝重重惩罚我！”众百姓知道了就看为好。凡王所做的，众百姓都看为好。那日，以色列众百姓才知道杀尼珥的儿子押尼珥并非出于王意。王对臣仆说：“你们岂不知今日在以色列中倒了一个作元帅的大人物吗？我虽然受膏为王，今日还是软弱。洗鲁雅的两个儿子，这些人比我强硬。愿耶和华照着恶人所行的恶报应他。”

判罪之后不立刻执行，所以世人满怀作恶的心思。

大卫派人告诉约押：“你派赫人乌利亚到我这里来。”约押就派乌利亚到大卫那里。乌利亚来到大卫那里，大卫问约押好，也问士兵好，又问战争的情况。大卫对乌利亚说：“下到你家去，洗洗脚吧！”乌利亚出了王宫，随后王送他一份礼物。乌利亚却和他主人所有的仆人一同睡在王宫门口，没有下到他家去。有人告诉大卫说：“乌利亚没有下到他的家。”大卫就对乌利亚说：“你不是从远路上来吗？为什么不下到你家去呢？”乌利亚对大卫说：“约柜，以色列和犹大都留在棚里，我主约押和我主的仆人都在田野安营，我岂可回家吃喝，与妻子同房呢？我指着王和王的性命起誓：‘我绝不做这事！’”大卫对乌利亚说：“你今日仍留在这里，明日我打发你去。”于是乌利亚那日留在耶路撒冷。次日，大卫召了乌利亚来，叫他在自己面前吃喝，使他喝醉。黄昏的时候，乌利亚出去，躺卧在自己的床上；与他主的仆人在一起，并没有下到他的家去。早晨，大卫写信给约押，交乌利亚亲手带去。他在信内写着说：“要派乌利亚到战争激烈的前线去，然后你们撤退离开他，使他被击杀而死。”约押侦察城的时候，知道敌人哪里有勇士，就派乌利亚到那地方。城里的人出来和约押打仗，大卫的仆人中有几个士兵被杀，赫人乌利亚也死了。于是，约押派人去将战争的一切事奏告大卫，又吩咐使者说：“你把战争的一切事对王说完了，王若发怒，对你说：‘你们打仗为什么挨近城呢？岂不知敌人会从城墙上射箭吗？从前击杀耶路比设的儿子亚比米勒的是谁呢？岂不是一个妇人从城墙上抛下一块上磨石来，打在他身上，他就死在提备斯吗？你们为什么挨近城墙呢？’你就说：‘你的仆人赫人乌利亚也死了。’”

一个有智慧的妇人从城上呼叫：“听啊，听啊，请你们告诉约押：‘近前来到这里，我好与你说话。’”

约押吹角，军兵就回来，不去追赶以色列人，因为约押制止了军兵。

于是约押吹角，众百姓就站住，不再追赶以色列人，也不再打仗了。
