Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David:“ It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.”

Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah. When David was told that it was the men from Jabesh Gilead who had buried Saul,

When the residents of Jabesh-gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,all their brave men set out, journeyed all night, and retrieved the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan. When they arrived at Jabesh, they burned the bodies there.Afterward, they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree in Jabesh and fasted seven days.

In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned 33 years over all Israel and Judah.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. King David made a covenant with them at Hebron in the Lord’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel.

So Samuel took the horn of oil, anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord took control of David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

Therefore, be strong and courageous, for though Saul your lord is dead, the house of Judah has anointed me king over them.”

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they all went in search of David, but he heard about it and went down to the stronghold.

All the men of Judah responded to the men of Israel,“ Because the king is our relative. Why does this make you angry? Have we ever eaten anything of the king’s or been honored at all?”

The length of time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. David made a covenant with them at Hebron in the Lord’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel, in keeping with the Lord’s word through Samuel.

Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the necks of your enemies; your father’s sons will bow down to you.Judah is a young lion— my son, you return from the kill. He crouches; he lies down like a lion or a lioness— who dares to rouse him?The scepter will not depart from Judah or the staff from between his feet until He whose right it is comes and the obedience of the peoples belongs to Him.

King David sent word to the priests, Zadok and Abiathar:“ Say to the elders of Judah,‘ Why should you be the last to restore the king to his palace? The talk of all Israel has reached the king at his house.
