基列．雅比的居民听见非利士人向扫罗所行的事，所有的勇士就动身，走了一整夜，把扫罗的尸体和他三个儿子的尸体都从伯．珊的城墙上取下来，带回雅比，在那里把他们烧了，又把他们的骸骨埋葬在雅比的垂柳树下，并且禁食七天。

他在希伯仑作犹大的王七年零六个月；在耶路撒冷作全以色列和犹大的王三十三年。

以色列的众长老都到希伯仑来见王。大卫王在希伯仑耶和华面前与他们立约，他们就膏立大卫作以色列的王。

撒母耳就拿起盛油的角，在他的兄长中膏立他。从那天起，耶和华的灵就大大感动大卫。后来撒母耳动身往拉玛去了。

现在你们要坚强，要作勇敢的人，因为你们的主扫罗已经死了；犹大家已经膏立了我作他们的王了。”

非利士人听见有人膏立了大卫作王统治以色列人，就全体上来搜寻大卫。大卫听见了，就下到保障去。

犹大众人回答以色列人说：“因为王与我们的关系亲密。你们为什么因这事而生气呢？我们从王那里得到什么吃的呢？或是他给了我们什么礼物呢？”

大卫在希伯仑作王统治犹大家的时候共有七年零六个月。

于是以色列的众长老都来到希伯仑见大卫王，大卫就在希伯仑，在耶和华面前与他们立约，他们就按照耶和华藉着撒母耳所说的话，膏立大卫作王治理以色列。

犹大啊，你的兄弟们要称赞你；你的手必压住仇敌的颈项；你父亲的众子必向你下拜。犹大是只小狮子；我儿啊，你猎取了食物就上到洞穴去。他屈身伏卧，好像公狮，又像母狮，谁敢惊动他呢？权杖必不离开犹大，王圭必不离他两脚之间，直到细罗﹙“细罗”有古译本作“属他的那位”﹚来到，万族都要臣服他。

大卫王派人去见撒督祭司和亚比亚他，说：“你们要对犹大的众长老说：‘你们为什么在请王回宫的事上落在人后头呢？全以色列请王回宫的话已经传到王和王宫那里去了。
