過了兩天，大衛率領部下回到洗革拉的時候，發現亞瑪力人襲擊了南地和洗革拉，攻破了洗革拉城，把全城燒毀，

所有受壓迫的、負債的和心懷不滿的人都紛紛來投奔他。大衛就做了他們的首領，跟隨他的有四百多人。

猶大山區的基列·亞巴及其草場，亞巴原是亞衲人的祖先，基列·亞巴就是希伯崙。而城周圍的田地和鄉村已經分給耶孚尼的兒子迦勒作產業。

於是，大衛率領六百名部下前去追趕，到了比梭溪，有二百人因為太累而不能過溪，就留在那裡。大衛率領其餘的四百人繼續追趕。
