押尼珥回到希伯仑的时候，约押就把他带到城门的瓮洞，装作与他密谈，乘机用短剑刺入他的肚子，把他杀死了，为他兄弟亚撒黑报了仇。

他们装作是来取麦子，进入伊施波设的寝室，趁他正躺在床上熟睡，用刀刺透他的肚子杀了他，割下他的首级，拿着连夜穿过亚拉巴逃跑了。

大卫率领军队来到耶路撒冷，要攻打那里的耶布斯人。耶布斯人对大卫说：“你攻不进来，就连我们这里的瞎子、瘸子都可以把你赶走。”他们以为大卫攻不进去。

亚玛撒毫无防备，被约押一刀刺入肚子，肚破肠流而死。然后，约押和他兄弟亚比筛继续追赶比基利的儿子示巴。

亚玛撒的尸体倒在路中间的血泊中。那人见众人驻足围观，便把尸体从路上拖到田里，扔了一件衣服盖上。尸体搬走以后，大家都跟随约押去追比基利的儿子示巴。
