他们的姊妹是洗鲁雅和亚比该。洗鲁雅的儿子是亚比筛、约押和亚撒黑，共三人。

就率领所有的人，去攻打尼探雅的儿子以实玛利，在基遍的大水池边追上他。

约押虽然没有拥护过押沙龙，但曾拥护亚多尼雅；这消息传到约押那里，他就逃到耶和华的帐幕里去，抓紧祭坛的角。有人告诉所罗门王约押逃到耶和华的帐幕里去了，现在就在祭坛的旁边。于是所罗门差派耶何耶大的儿子比拿雅去说：“你去把他杀死。”比拿雅来到耶和华的帐幕那里，对约押说：“王这样吩咐说：‘你出来！’”约押说：“我不出去！我要死在这里。”于是比拿雅回覆王说：“约押这样说，他这样回答我。”王对比拿雅说：“你照着约押的话行吧！杀死他，把他埋葬，好叫约押所流无辜人的血，从我和我父的家除去。耶和华必使约押流无辜人的血的罪归到他自己头上，因为他击杀了两个比他又公义又良善的人，就是用刀杀了以色列的元帅尼珥的儿子押尼珥，和犹大的元帅益帖的儿子亚玛撒，这事我的父亲大卫一点都不知道。愿流这二人的血的罪归到约押和他后裔的头上，直到永远；但大卫和他的后裔，他的家和他的国却要从耶和华那里得享平安，直到永远。”于是耶何耶大的儿子比拿雅上去击杀他，把他杀死，葬在旷野约押自己的家中。王任命耶何耶大的儿子比拿雅取代约押统领军队；又任命撒督祭司取代亚比亚他的职位。

亚多尼雅与洗鲁雅的儿子约押和亚比亚他祭司商议以后，二人都答应支持他。

洗鲁雅的三个儿子约押、亚比筛和亚撒黑都在那里。亚撒黑的腿轻快如野地的羚羊一般。

约押作以色列所有军队的统帅。耶何耶大的儿子比拿雅统辖基利提人和比利提人；

大卫说：“谁首先攻打耶布斯人，谁就必作首领和元帅。”洗鲁雅的儿子约押首先上去，就作了首领。
