此后，大卫攻打非利士人，制伏了他们。大卫从非利士人手中夺取了京城的治理权。他又攻打摩押人，使他们躺卧在地上，用绳来量，量二绳的杀了，量一绳的活着。摩押人就臣服大卫，向他进贡。利合的儿子琐巴王哈大底谢往幼发拉底河去，要夺回他的国权，大卫就攻打他，俘掳了他的骑兵一千七百人，步兵二万人。大卫把所有战马的蹄筋砍断，只留下一百辆战车。大马士革的亚兰人来帮助琐巴王哈大底谢，大卫杀了亚兰人二万二千。于是大卫在大马士革的亚兰设立军营，亚兰人就臣服大卫，向他进贡。大卫无论往哪里去，耶和华都使他得胜。大卫夺了哈大底谢臣仆拥有的金盾牌，带到耶路撒冷。大卫王又从哈大底谢的比他和比罗他二城夺取了许多的铜。哈马王陀以听见大卫击败哈大底谢的全军，就派他儿子约兰到大卫王那里，向他请安，为他祝福，因他与哈大底谢争战，并且击败了他；原来哈大底谢与陀以常常争战。约兰手里带了金银铜的器皿来。大卫王把这些器皿分别为圣，连同他制伏各国所分别为圣的金银，献给耶和华，就是从亚兰、摩押、亚扪人、非利士人、亚玛力人，以及从利合的儿子琐巴王哈大底谢所掠之物。大卫得了名声。当他回来的时候，在盐谷击杀了一万八千以东人。大卫在以东设立军营；他在全以东设立军营，以东人就都臣服他。大卫无论往哪里去，耶和华都使他得胜。

扫罗说：“你们要对大卫这样说：‘王不要什么聘礼，只要一百非利士人的包皮，好在王的仇敌身上报仇。’”扫罗的意图是要大卫落在非利士人的手中。

扫罗无论差遣大卫往何处去，他都做事精明。扫罗立他作军队的指挥官，众百姓和扫罗的臣仆都看为美。大卫打死了那非利士人，同众人回来的时候，妇女们从以色列各城里出来，欢欢喜喜，打鼓奏乐，唱歌跳舞，迎接扫罗王。众妇女欢乐唱和，说：“扫罗杀死千千，大卫杀死万万。”

那人说：“你赐给我、与我一起的女人，是她把那树上所出的给我，我就吃了。”耶和华上帝对女人说：“你怎么会做这种事呢？”女人说：“那蛇引诱我，我就吃了。”

你们心里若怀着恶毒的嫉妒和自私，就不可自夸，不可说谎话抵挡真理。这样的智慧不是从上头下来的，而是属地上的，属情欲的，属鬼魔的。在何处有嫉妒、自私，在何处就有动乱和各样的坏事。

他拚了命杀那非利士人，并且耶和华为全以色列大施拯救。那时你看见，也很欢喜，现在为何要犯罪，流无辜人的血，无缘无故杀大卫呢？”

我对他们说：‘凡有金环的可以摘下来’，他们就给了我。我把金环扔在火中，这牛犊就出来了。”

这样，大卫用机弦和石子胜了那非利士人，击中了他，把他杀死；大卫手中没有刀。

大卫来到巴力‧毗拉心，在那里击败了非利士人。他说：“耶和华在我面前冲破敌人，如水冲破一样。”因此他称那地方为巴力‧毗拉心。
