And all the people were arguing throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying,“ The king delivered us from the hand of our enemies and saved us from the hand of the Philistines, and now he has fled out of the land from Absalom.

And throughout all the tribes of Israel there was much discussion and argument going on. The people were saying,“ The king rescued us from our enemies and saved us from the Philistines, but Absalom chased him out of the country.

大衛就對所有在耶路撒冷跟隨他的臣僕說：『我們要起來逃走；不然就沒有躲避押沙龍的機會了；要趕快地去，恐怕他迅速趕上了我們，撞禍到我們身上來，用刀擊殺了城裏的人。』

此後大衛擊敗了非利士人，制伏他們；大衛從非利士人手下奪取了母城的駕馭權。他又擊敗了摩押人，使他們躺在地上，用繩子量量他們：把量二繩長的殺死，讓量一繩長的活着；摩押人就臣服於大衛，帶着禮物而來。瑣巴王利合的兒子哈大底謝往大河去、要伸展他的權勢，大衛擊敗了他。大衛擄獲了他的馬兵一千七百，步兵二萬。大衛將拉戰車的馬砍斷蹄筋，卻留下一百輛車的馬沒有砍斷。大馬色的亞蘭人來幫助瑣巴王哈大底謝，大衛就擊殺了亞蘭人二萬二千。於是大衛在大馬色的亞蘭設立了駐防營；亞蘭人就臣服於大衛，帶着貢物而來。大衛無論往哪裏去，永恆主都使他得勝。大衛取了哈大底謝的臣僕身上的金擋牌，帶到耶路撒冷來。大衛王又從哈大底謝的比他和比羅他城中奪取了極多的銅。哈馬王陀以聽見大衛擊敗了哈大底謝的全軍，就打發他的兒子哈多蘭來見大衛王，向他問安，慶祝他有福，因為他和哈大底謝交戰、竟擊敗了他；原來陀以跟哈大底謝常有戰事。哈多蘭手裏還帶着銀器金器和銅器來。這些器皿大衛王也分別為聖獻與永恆主，連同他所祝聖過的金銀，他從征服的各國、從以東、從摩押、從亞捫人、非利士人、亞瑪力人，從瑣巴王利合的兒子哈大底謝、所掠得來的、都分別為聖，獻與永恆主。大衛在鹽谷擊敗了以東一萬八千人回來以後、就得了大名聲。他又在以東設立駐防營；他在全以東設立了駐防營，全以東就都臣服於大衛。大衛無論往哪裏去，永恆主總使他得勝。

掃羅說：『你們要對大衛這樣說：「王要的並不是聘禮，乃是一百個非利士人的陽皮，好在王的仇敵身上報仇呢。」』原來掃羅所圖謀的乃是要使大衛倒斃在非利士人手下。

掃羅無論差遣大衛到哪裏去，大衛都出去、而且無往而不利；掃羅立他為戰士長，不但眾民滿意，就是掃羅的臣僕也都滿意。大衛擊敗了非利士人回來，眾人來到的時候，有婦女們從以色列各城裏出來歌唱，有舞蹈的婦女帶着手鼓和樂器歡歡喜喜地出來迎接掃羅王。那些嬉戲作樂的婦女彼此唱和說：『掃羅擊殺其千千；大衛擊殺其萬萬。』

那人說：『你所賜給我、和我同居的女人，她把那樹上的果子給了我，我就喫了。』永恆主上帝對女人說：『你幹的甚麼事啊？』女人說：『是蛇誘騙了我，我才喫了。』

你們若存着苦毒的妒忌和營私爭勝在心裏，別自己誇勝、作假事以敵真理了。這樣的智慧不是從上頭下來的，是屬地上、屬血氣、屬鬼魔的。哪裏有妒忌和營私爭勝，哪裏就有擾亂和各樣的壞事。

他冒險拚命擊殺了那非利士人，永恆主就向以色列眾人大行拯救；那時你看見，也很歡喜；現在你為甚麼要無緣無故殺死大衛，流無辜人的血、來犯罪呢？』

我對他們說：「凡有金的要摘下來」；他們給了我，我把它扔在火中，這牛犢便出來了！』

這樣、大衛強過那非利士人、是用甩機弦和石子；大衛擊中了那非利士人、而殺死他，手中並沒有刀。

大衛來到巴力毘拉心；就在那裏擊敗了非利士人，說：『永恆主在我面前沖破了我的仇敵，如同水沖破了堤岸一般。因此他給那地方起名叫巴力毘拉心。
