Throughout the tribes of Israel, all the people were arguing among themselves, saying,“ The king delivered us from the hand of our enemies; he is the one who rescued us from the hand of the Philistines. But now he has fled the country to escape from Absalom;

And David said unto all his servants that[ were] with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not[ else] escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.

And[ so] the Moabites became David’s servants,[ and] brought gifts.David smote also Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates.And David took from him a thousand[ chariots], and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand footmen: and David houghed all the chariot[ horses], but reserved of them[ for] an hundred chariots.And when the Syrians of Damascus came to succour Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians two and twenty thousand men.Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David,[ and] brought gifts. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceeding much brass.When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the host of Hadadezer,Then Toi sent Joram his son unto king David, to salute him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And[ Joram] brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of brass:Which also king David did dedicate unto the LORD, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued;Of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the spoil of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.And David gat[ him] a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt,[ being] eighteen thousand[ men].And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David’s servants. And the LORD preserved David whithersoever he went.

And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The king desireth not any dowry, but an hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies. But Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

And David went out whithersoever Saul sent him,[ and] behaved himself wisely: and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.And the women answered[ one another] as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest[ to be] with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.And the LORD God said unto the woman, What[ is] this[ that] thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.This wisdom descendeth not from above, but[ is] earthly, sensual, devilish.For where envying and strife[ is], there[ is] confusion and every evil work.

For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the LORD wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest[ it], and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?

And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break[ it] off. So they gave[ it] me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but[ there was] no sword in the hand of David.

And David came to Baalperazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baalperazim.
