After this David defeated the Philistines and subdued them, and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.And he defeated Moab and he measured them with a line, making them lie down on the ground. Two lines he measured to be put to death, and one full line to be spared. And the Moabites became servants to David and brought tribute.David also defeated Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to restore his power at the river Euphrates.And David took from him 1,700 horsemen, and 20,000 foot soldiers. And David hamstrung all the chariot horses but left enough for 100 chariots.And when the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David struck down 22,000 men of the Syrians.Then David put garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Syrians became servants to David and brought tribute. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.And David took the shields of gold that were carried by the servants of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.And from Betah and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, King David took very much bronze.When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had defeated the whole army of Hadadezer,Toi sent his son Joram to King David, to ask about his health and to bless him because he had fought against Hadadezer and defeated him, for Hadadezer had often been at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him articles of silver, of gold, and of bronze.These also King David dedicated to the Lord, together with the silver and gold that he dedicated from all the nations he subdued,from Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, Amalek, and from the spoil of Hadadezer the son of Rehob, king of Zobah.And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt.Then he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went.

Then Saul said,“ Thus shall you say to David,‘ The king desires no bride-price except a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, that he may be avenged of the king’s enemies.’” Now Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

And David went out and was successful wherever Saul sent him, so that Saul set him over the men of war. And this was good in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.As they were coming home, when David returned from striking down the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with songs of joy, and with musical instruments.And the women sang to one another as they celebrated,“ Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands.”

The man said,“ The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.”Then the Lord God said to the woman,“ What is this that you have done?” The woman said,“ The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

For he took his life in his hand and he struck down the Philistine, and the Lord worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood by killing David without cause?”

So I said to them,‘ Let any who have gold take it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”

So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in the hand of David.

And David came to Baal-perazim, and David defeated them there. And he said,“ The Lord has broken through my enemies before me like a breaking flood.” Therefore the name of that place is called Baal-perazim.
