掃羅就說：「你們對大衛這樣說：『王想要的不是聘金，他只要一百個非利士人的包皮，為要報復王的仇敵。』」這是掃羅的謀算，要讓大衛在非利士人手中倒下。

大衛出征，在掃羅派遣他去做的所有事上都通達。掃羅就立他作戰士們的統領，這在全體軍兵和掃羅的臣僕們眼中都看為好。在大衛擊殺了那非利士人之後，大家返回的時候，婦女們從以色列的各城鎮出來唱歌、跳舞，用鈴鼓、歡呼、三弦琴來迎接掃羅王。婦女們歡慶歌唱，說：「掃羅擊殺千千，大衛擊殺萬萬！」

那人說：「你賜給我那與我在一起的女人——她把那棵樹上的果實給了我，我就吃了。」耶和華神對女人說：「你做的這是什麼呢？」女人說：「那蛇引誘了我，我就吃了。」

但如果你們心裡懷著苦毒的嫉妒和爭競，就不要自誇、說謊而抵擋真理。這種智慧不是從上面下來的，而是屬地的，屬血氣的，屬鬼魔的。要知道，哪裡有嫉妒和爭競，哪裡就有混亂和各樣的惡事。

他冒著生命危險，擊殺了那非利士人；耶和華為全以色列施行了大拯救。那時你看見了就歡喜，現在你為什麼要犯罪流無辜人的血，無故殺大衛呢？」

這樣大衛用投石索和石頭勝了那非利士人。大衛手中沒有刀，卻擊倒了那非利士人，殺了他。

於是大衛來到巴力批拉津，大衛在那裡擊敗了他們，他說：「耶和華在我面前沖潰我的仇敵，如同洪水沖破堤岸。」因此他給那地方起名為巴力批拉津。
