这事以后，大卫攻打非利士人，制伏了他们。大卫从非利士人手中取得了京城的控制权。他又击败摩押人，使他们躺在地上，用绳子量他们，把量两绳的杀死，让量一绳的存活。这样，摩押人就臣服大卫，给他进贡。琐巴王利合的儿子哈大底谢，往幼发拉底河去要夺回他统治这河的势力的时候，大卫就攻打他。大卫从他那里掳获了战车一千辆，骑兵七千（按照《马索拉文本》，“骑兵七千”作“骑兵一千七百”，现按《七十士译本》翻译；参《死海古卷》和代上18:4），步兵二万，大卫把所有战车的马的蹄筋都砍断。只留下一百辆战车的马。（“大卫把所有战车的马的蹄筋都砍断，只留下一百辆战车的马”或译：“大卫毁坏了所有战车，只留下一百辆战车”）大马士革的亚兰人来协助琐巴王哈大底谢，大卫就击杀了亚兰人二万二千。于是大卫在大马士革的亚兰地驻军。这样亚兰人就臣服大卫，给他进贡。大卫无论到什么地方去，耶和华都使他得胜。大卫夺取了哈大底谢臣仆所拿的金盾牌，带回耶路撒冷。大卫王又从哈大底谢的两座城比他和比罗他夺取了大量的铜。哈马王陀以听见大卫打败了哈大底谢的全军，就差派他的儿子约兰去见大卫王，向他问安，祝贺他，因为大卫和哈大底谢争战，竟击败了他。原来陀以常常与哈大底谢争战。约兰手里还带着一些银器、金器和铜器。大卫王也把这些器皿，连同他从他征服的各国得来的金银都一起分别为圣，献给耶和华。就是从以东、摩押、亚扪人、非利士人、亚玛力人所得来的，以及从琐巴王利合的儿子哈大底谢获得的战利品。大卫在盐谷击杀了一万八千以东人回来以后，就大有名声。他又在以东设立防军；他在以东各地都设立防军，所有以东人就都臣服大卫。大卫无论到什么地方去，耶和华都使他得胜。

扫罗说：“你们要对大卫这样说：‘王不要什么聘礼，只要一百个非利士人的包皮，好在王的仇敌身上报仇。’”扫罗企图使大卫死在非利士人的手里。

扫罗无论差派大卫到哪里去，他都去，并且凡事亨通。于是扫罗立他作军兵的将领。所有的人民和扫罗的臣仆都非常高兴。大卫击杀了那非利士人，与众人一同回来的时候，妇女们从以色列各城里出来，唱歌、跳舞、打鼓、欢呼、击磬迎接扫罗王。妇女们跳舞、歌唱，说：“扫罗杀死千千！大卫杀死万万！”

那人说：“你所赐给我、和我在一起的那女人，她把树上的果子给我，我就吃了。”耶和华神对女人说：“你作了什么事呢？”女人说：“那蛇欺哄我，我就吃了。”

如果你们心中存着刻薄的嫉妒和自私，就不可夸口，也不可说谎抵挡真理。这种智慧不是从天上来的，而是属地的、属血气的和属鬼魔的。因为凡有嫉妒和自私的地方，就必有扰乱和各样的坏事。

他冒着生命的危险击杀了那非利士人，耶和华为以色列人施行了大拯救，那时你看见了，也很欢喜。现在你为什么要犯罪，无缘无故杀死大卫，流无辜人的血呢？”

我对他们说：‘凡是有金子的，都可以摘下来’，他们就给了我；我把它丢在火里，这牛犊就出来了。”

这样，大卫用机弦和一块石子胜过了那非利士人。大卫击杀了那非利士人，但他手中没有刀。

于是大卫来到巴力‧毗拉心，在那里击败了非利士人，说：“耶和华在我面前冲破我的敌人，好像洪水冲破堤岸一般。”因此他给那地方起名叫巴力‧毗拉心。
