But the men of Israel answered the men of Judah and said,“ We have ten parts in the king, therefore we also have more claim on David than you. Why then did you treat us with contempt? Was it not our advice first to bring back our king?” Yet the words of the men of Judah were harsher than the words of the men of Israel.

以色列族曰、立王十二支派、我有其十、故我得王較爾應多、爾欲導王歸、曷藐視我、不先與我議乎。然猶大人之言、較以色列族尤厲。

以色列人語猶大人曰、我於王有十分之關繫、我於大衛較爾情誼尤深、爾何藐視我、不使我先請我王歸耶、爾何藐視我不使我先請我王歸耶或作爾導王歸何藐視我不先與我言也又作爾何藐視我請我王歸豈非我先言之耶然猶大人之言、較以色列人之言尤厲、

Then the men of Israel answered the men of Judah,“ We have ten shares in the king; so we have a greater claim on David than you have. Why then do you treat us with contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing back our king?” But the men of Judah pressed their claims even more forcefully than the men of Israel.

Then the men of Israel answered the men of Judah. They said,“ We have ten of the 12 tribes in the kingdom. So we have a stronger claim on David than you have. Why then are you acting as if you hate us? Weren’t we the first ones to talk about bringing back our king?” But the men of Judah argued their side even more forcefully than the men of Israel.

And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah,“ We have ten shares in the king, and in David also we have more than you. Why then did you despise us? Were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king?” But the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

“ But there are ten tribes in Israel,” the others replied.“ So we have ten times as much right to the king as you do. What right do you have to treat us with such contempt? Weren’t we the first to speak of bringing him back to be our king again?” The argument continued back and forth, and the men of Judah spoke even more harshly than the men of Israel.

Weren’t we the first to suggest bringing back our king?” But the comments of the men of Judah were more severe than those of the men of Israel.

The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said,“ We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?” The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and said,“ Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions,

Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility consider one another as more important than yourselves;

For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to rein in the whole body as well.Now if we put the bits into the horses’ mouths so that they will obey us, we direct their whole body as well.Look at the ships too: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are nevertheless directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot determines.So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!And the tongue is a fire, the very world of unrighteousness; the tongue is set among our body’s parts as that which defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.For every species of beasts and birds, of reptiles and creatures of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by the human race.But no one among mankind can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people, who have been made in the likeness of God;from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, these things should not be this way.

A brother who is offended is harder to be won than a strong city, And quarrels are like the bars of a citadel.

Through overconfidence comes nothing but strife, But wisdom is with those who receive counsel.

So he turned the hearts of all the men of Judah as one man, so that they sent word to the king, saying,“ Return, you and all your servants.”

Now the men of Ephraim were summoned, and they crossed to Zaphon; and they said to Jephthah,“ Why did you cross over to fight against the sons of Ammon without calling us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you!”So Jephthah said to them,“ I and my people were in a major dispute with the sons of Ammon; and I did call you, but you did not save me from their hand.When I saw that you were no deliverer, I took my life in my hands and crossed over against the sons of Ammon, and the Lord handed them over to me. Why then have you come up to me this day to fight against me?”Then Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead and fought Ephraim; and the men of Gilead defeated Ephraim, because they said,“ You are survivors of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim and in the midst of Manasseh.”And the Gileadites took control of the crossing places of the Jordan opposite Ephraim. And it happened whenever any of the survivors of Ephraim said,“ Let me cross over,” that the men of Gilead would say to him,“ Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said,“ No,”then they would say to him,“ Just say,‘ Shibboleth.’ ” But he said,“ Sibboleth,” for he was not prepared to pronounce it correctly. Then they seized him and slaughtered him at the crossing places of the Jordan. So at that time forty two thousand from Ephraim fell.

But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.

When all Israel saw that the king had not listened to them, the people replied to the king, saying,“ What share do we have in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse; To your tents, Israel! Now look after your own house, David!” So Israel went away to their tents.

Then the men of Ephraim said to Gideon,“ What is this thing that you have done to us, not calling upon us when you went to fight against Midian?” And they quarreled with him vehemently.

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is the source not your pleasures that wage war in your body’s parts?You lust and do not have, so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.You ask and do not receive, because you ask with the wrong motives, so that you may spend what you request on your pleasures.You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.Or do you think that the Scripture says to no purpose,“ He jealously desires the Spirit whom He has made to dwell in us”?

Then Ahijah took hold of the new cloak which was on him and tore it into twelve pieces.And he said to Jeroboam,“ Take for yourself ten pieces; for this is what the Lord, the God of Israel says:‘ Behold, I am going to tear the kingdom away from the hand of Solomon and give you ten tribes

Let’s not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another.

Then God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the leaders of Shechem; and the leaders of Shechem dealt treacherously with Abimelech,

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

And all the people were quarreling throughout the tribes of Israel, saying,“ The king rescued us from the hands of our enemies and saved us from the hands of the Philistines, but now he has fled out of the land from Absalom.

The beginning of strife is like letting out water, So abandon the quarrel before it breaks out.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.

Now a worthless man happened to be there whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjaminite; and he blew the trumpet and said,“ We have no share in David, Nor do we have an inheritance in the son of Jesse; Every man to his tents, Israel!”

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth.This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic.For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.

And David said to Abishai,“ Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom; take your lord’s servants and pursue him, so that he does not find for himself fortified cities and escape from our sight.”

for a man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness of God.
