今僕年八十、所食所飲、豈能知其味、辨其美惡乎、男女謳歌、豈能聞其聲乎、何為累我主我王、

我今年八十、所食所飲、不知其味、不別美惡、謳歌之男女、不能分其聲、臣與王偕、適以阻王而已。

僕今八十歲、能別美惡乎、能識所食所飲之味乎、能辨謳歌男女之聲乎、僕何必負累我主我王、

I am now eighty years old. Can I tell the difference between what is enjoyable and what is not? Can your servant taste what he eats and drinks? Can I still hear the voices of male and female singers? Why should your servant be an added burden to my lord the king?

Does not the ear test words And the mouth taste its food?

besides their male and female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven; and they had two hundred and forty-five men and women singers.

Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, Before the difficult days come, And the years draw near when you say,“ I have no pleasure in them”:While the sun and the light, The moon and the stars, Are not darkened, And the clouds do not return after the rain;In the day when the keepers of the house tremble, And the strong men bow down; When the grinders cease because they are few, And those that look through the windows grow dim;When the doors are shut in the streets, And the sound of grinding is low; When one rises up at the sound of a bird, And all the daughters of music are brought low.Also they are afraid of height, And of terrors in the way; When the almond tree blossoms, The grasshopper is a burden, And desire fails. For man goes to his eternal home, And the mourners go about the streets.

Is there injustice on my tongue? Cannot my taste discern the unsavory?

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her,“ Go.” So the maiden went and called the child’s mother.

But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

Woe to those who rise early in the morning, That they may follow intoxicating drink; Who continue until night, till wine inflames them!The harp and the strings, The tambourine and flute, And wine are in their feasts; But they do not regard the work of the Lord, Nor consider the operation of His hands.

But the king said to Absalom,“ No, my son, let us not all go now, lest we be a burden to you.” Then he urged him, but he would not go; and he blessed him.
