今僕年八十、所食所飲、豈能知其味、辨其美惡乎、男女謳歌、豈能聞其聲乎、何為累我主我王、

我今年八十、所食所飲、不知其味、不別美惡、謳歌之男女、不能分其聲、臣與王偕、適以阻王而已。

僕今八十歲、能別美惡乎、能識所食所飲之味乎、能辨謳歌男女之聲乎、僕何必負累我主我王、

I am eighty years old today, and I can no longer enjoy anything. Food and wine are no longer tasty, and I cannot hear the singers as they sing. I would only be a burden to my lord the king.

And David said to him,“ If you go over with me, then you will become a burden to me.

Does the ear not put words to the test, As the palate tastes its food?

besides their male slaves and their female slaves, of whom there were 7,337; and they had 245 male and female singers.

Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years approach when you will say,“ I have no pleasure in them”;before the sun and the light, the moon and the stars are darkened, and clouds return after the rain;on the day that the watchmen of the house tremble, and strong men are bent over, the grinders stop working because they are few, and those who look through windows grow dim;and the doors on the street are shut as the sound of the grinding mill is low, and one will arise at the sound of the bird, and all the daughters of song will sing softly.Furthermore, people are afraid of a high place and of terrors on the road; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along, and the caper berry is ineffective. For man goes to his eternal home while the mourners move around in the street.

Is there injustice on my tongue? Does my palate not discern disasters?

Pharaoh’s daughter said to her,“ Go ahead.” So the girl went and called the child’s mother.

But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to distinguish between good and evil.

if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.

Woe to those who rise early in the morning so that they may pursue intoxicating drink, Who stay up late in the evening so that wine may inflame them!Their banquets are accompanied by lyre and harp, by tambourine and flute, and by wine; But they do not pay attention to the deeds of the Lord, Nor do they consider the work of His hands.

But the king said to Absalom,“ No, my son, we should not all go, so that we will not be a burden to you.” Though he urged him, he would not go; but he blessed him.
