Mephibosheth, Saul’s grandson, also went down to meet the king. He had not taken care of his feet or trimmed his mustache or washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he returned safely.

掃羅的孫子、約拿單的兒子米非波設來到大衛面前，向他俯伏叩拜。大衛說：「米非波設！」米非波設答道：「僕人在這裡。」大衛說：「你不用害怕，我要因為和你父親約拿單的情義而恩待你。我要把你祖父掃羅所有的田地歸還給你，你要常與我同席吃飯。」米非波設再次叩拜，說：「僕人算什麼？不過像一條死狗罷了，你竟這樣眷顧我！」王又把掃羅的僕人洗巴召來，對他說：「我已把掃羅全家的產業都賜給了你主人的孫子米非波設。你和你的兒子及僕人要為米非波設種田，把出產拿來供養他。他還要常常與我同席吃飯。」洗巴有十五個兒子，二十個僕人。

當天，從示劍、示羅和撒瑪利亞來了八十個人，他們剃了鬍鬚，撕裂衣服，割破身體，手裡拿著素祭和乳香要去耶和華的殿。

要與喜樂的人同樂，與哀哭的人同哭。

大衛蒙著頭，赤著腳登上橄欖山，邊走邊哭，他的隨從也蒙著頭，哭著走上山。

王又問他：「你主人的孫子米非波設在哪裡？」洗巴說：「他在耶路撒冷，因為他相信現在以色列人會把他祖父的國歸還給他。」

底本城的人上到神廟，到他們的邱壇痛哭。摩押人都剃光頭髮，刮掉鬍鬚，為尼波和米底巴城哀號。

要設身處地地顧念那些被囚禁的人，要感同身受地顧念那些遭遇苦難的人。

「你們禁食的時候，不要像偽君子那樣愁眉苦臉，因為他們故意蓬頭垢面，好讓別人知道他們在禁食。我實在告訴你們，他們得到的賞賜不過是人的讚賞。
