Then he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet into every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and torches inside the pitchers.

Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite,“ Why are you also going with us? Return and remain with the king. For you are a foreigner and also an exile from your own place.In fact, you came only yesterday. Should I make you wander up and down with us today, since I go I know not where? Return, and take your brethren back. Mercy and truth be with you.”But Ittai answered the king and said,“ As the Lord lives, and as my Lord the king lives, surely in whatever place my Lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also your servant will be.”So David said to Ittai,“ Go, and cross over.” Then Ittai the Gittite and all his men and all the little ones who were with him crossed over.

So it was, on the next day, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and killed Ammonites until the heat of the day. And it happened that those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.

The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?The Lord is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man.

So he took his people, divided them into three companies, and lay in wait in the field. And he looked, and there were the people, coming out of the city; and he rose against them and attacked them.

I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.

So Gideon and the hundred men who were with him came to the outpost of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just as they had posted the watch; and they blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers that were in their hands.

Now when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.Then the people of Ammon came out and put themselves in battle array at the entrance of the gate. And the Syrians of Zoba, Beth Rehob, Ish-Tob, and Maacah were by themselves in the field.When Joab saw that the battle line was against him before and behind, he chose some of Israel’s best and put them in battle array against the Syrians.And the rest of the people he put under the command of Abishai his brother, that he might set them in battle array against the people of Ammon.

Therefore I advise that all Israel be fully gathered to you, from Dan to Beersheba, like the sand that is by the sea for multitude, and that you go to battle in person.
