王对迦特人以太说：“你为什么也与我们一同走呢？回去留在新王那里吧！因为你是个外族人，是个远离自己家乡逃到这里来的人。你昨天才来，我怎可以今天就让你与我们一同流浪呢？现在我还不知道我要到哪里去。你回去吧！带着你的兄弟一同回去吧！愿耶和华的（《马索拉文本》没有“耶和华的”；现参照《七十士译本》补上）慈爱和信实与你同在。”以太回答王说：“我指着永活的耶和华，在我主我王面前起誓，无论我主我王在什么地方，或生或死，你仆人也必在那里。”大卫对以太说：“你可以去，向前走吧！”迦特人以太就带着所有属他的人，和与他在一起的妇人孩子都向前走。

第二天，扫罗把众人分成三队。在晨更的时候，他们进了亚扪人的营中，击杀他们，直到中午；残余的人都星散了，他们中间没有两个人留在一起的。

耶和华是我的亮光，是我的救恩，我还怕谁呢？耶和华是我性命的避难所，我还惧谁呢？（本节在《马索拉文本》包括细字标题）那些作恶的，就是我的敌人、我的仇敌，他们逼近我，要吃我肉的时候，就绊跌仆倒。虽有军兵扎营攻击我，我的心也不害怕；虽然发动战争攻击我，我仍旧安稳。

耶和华是我的帮助，我决不害怕，人能把我怎么样呢？耶和华是我的帮助，我必看见恨我的人遭报。投靠耶和华，胜过倚靠人。

亚比米勒就把他的人分作三队，埋伏在田间；他在那里观看，见有人从城里出来，就起来攻击他们，把他们击杀了。

虽有千万人包围攻击我，我也不怕。

基甸和所有与他在一起的一百人，在半夜三更的起初，换更的时候，来到了营的边缘，就吹起角来，打破手中的瓦瓶。

大卫听见了，就差派约押和全体勇士出去。亚扪人出来，在城门前摆阵，琐巴和利合的亚兰人，陀伯人和玛迦人，也分别在郊野摆阵。约押看见自己前后受敌，就从以色列所有的精兵中，挑选一部分出来，使他们摆阵去迎战亚兰人，他把其余的人交在他兄弟亚比筛手下，使他们摆阵去迎战亚扪人。

因此，我建议把以色列众人，从但到别是巴，都聚集到你这里来，好像海边的沙那样多，然后你亲自率领他们上战场。
