When David came to Mahanaim, Shobi son of Nahash from Rabbah of the Ammonites, and Makir son of Ammiel from Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim

David came to Mahanaim. Shobi, the son of Nahash, met him there. Shobi was from Rabbah in the land of Ammon. Makir, the son of Ammiel from Lo Debar, met him there too. So did Barzillai from Rogelim in the land of Gilead.

When David came to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the Ammonites, and Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,

When David arrived at Mahanaim, he was warmly greeted by Shobi son of Nahash, who came from Rabbah of the Ammonites, and by Makir son of Ammiel from Lo debar, and by Barzillai of Gilead from Rogelim.

Now when David had come to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,

Now it happened, when David had come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the people of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,

And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

And it came to pass, when David was come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and Machir the son of Ammiel of Lodebar, and Barzillai the Gileadite of Rogelim,

Later the king of the Ammonites died and his son Hanun succeeded him.David said,“ I will express my loyalty to Hanun son of Nahash just as his father was loyal to me.” So David sent his servants with a message expressing sympathy over his father’s death. When David’s servants entered the land of the Ammonites,

The king asked him,“ Where is he?” Ziba told the king,“ He is at the house of Makir son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.

“ Treat fairly the sons of Barzillai of Gilead and provide for their needs, because they helped me when I had to flee from your brother Absalom.

And from among the priests: the descendants of Hobaiah, the descendants of Hakkoz, and the descendants of Barzillai( who had taken a wife from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite and was called by that name).

Nahash the Ammonite marched against Jabesh Gilead. All the men of Jabesh Gilead said to Nahash,“ Make a treaty with us and we will serve you.”

So Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites and captured the royal city.

So David assembled all the army and went to Rabbah and fought against it and captured it.He took the crown of their king from his head– it was gold, weighed about seventy-five pounds, and held a precious stone– and it was placed on David’s head. He also took from the city a great deal of plunder.

Now when Barzillai the Gileadite had come down from Rogelim, he crossed the Jordan with the king so he could send him on his way from there.But Barzillai was very old– eighty years old, in fact– and he had taken care of the king when he stayed in Mahanaim, for he was a very rich man.So the king said to Barzillai,“ Cross over with me, and I will take care of you while you are with me in Jerusalem.”Barzillai replied to the king,“ How many days do I have left to my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?I am presently eighty years old. Am I able to discern good and bad? Can I taste what I eat and drink? Am I still able to hear the voices of male and female singers? Why should I continue to be a burden to my lord the king?I will cross the Jordan with the king and go a short distance. Why should the king reward me in this way?Let me return so that I may die in my own city near the grave of my father and my mother. But look, here is your servant Kimham. Let him cross over with my lord the king. Do for him whatever seems appropriate to you.”The king replied,“ Kimham will cross over with me, and I will do for him whatever I deem appropriate. And whatever you choose, I will do for you.”So all the people crossed the Jordan, as did the king. After the king had kissed him and blessed him, Barzillai returned to his home.
