David came to Mahanaim. Shobi, the son of Nahash, met him there. Shobi was from Rabbah in the land of Ammon. Makir, the son of Ammiel from Lo Debar, met him there too. So did Barzillai from Rogelim in the land of Gilead.

When David came to Mahanaim, Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the Ammonites, and Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim,

When David arrived at Mahanaim, he was warmly greeted by Shobi son of Nahash, who came from Rabbah of the Ammonites, and by Makir son of Ammiel from Lo debar, and by Barzillai of Gilead from Rogelim.

基列人巴爾兹萊從羅格琳下來，與王一同前往約旦河，要在約旦河那裡給王送行。巴爾兹萊很老了，已經八十歲。王住在瑪哈念的時候，他供應了王，因為他是一個非常富有的人。王對巴爾兹萊說：「你與我一起過去吧，我會在耶路撒冷、在我的身邊供養你。」巴爾兹萊對王說：「我就算與王一起上耶路撒冷，還能活多少年日呢？我現在已經八十歲了，還能辨別好壞嗎？難道你的僕人還能品嘗所吃的、所喝的嗎？難道我還能聽出男女歌唱的聲音嗎？你的僕人何必成為我主我王額外的負擔呢？僕人只不過是陪同王過約旦河，王何必以這樣的賞賜恩待我呢？請讓僕人回去吧，我要死在本鄉，靠近我父母的墳墓。看哪，你的僕人金罕在這裡，讓他與我主我王一同過去吧。你看怎樣好，就怎樣對待他。」王說：「就讓金罕與我一同過去，我必按你看為好的對待他。你希望我做的一切，我都會為你成全。」於是全體軍兵渡過約旦河，王也過去了。王親吻巴爾兹萊，祝福了他，然後巴爾兹萊回自己的地方去了。
