押沙龍獻祭的時候，打發人去將大衛的謀士、基羅人亞希多弗從他本城請了來。於是叛逆的勢派甚大；因為隨從押沙龍的人民，日漸增多。

那時，希西家病得要死。亞摩斯的兒子先知以賽亞去見他，對他說：「耶和華如此說：『你當留遺命與你的家，因為你必死，不能活了。』」

有人告訴大衛說：「亞希多弗也在叛黨之中，隨從押沙龍。」大衛禱告說：「耶和華啊，求你使亞希多弗的計謀變為愚拙！」

心利見城破失，就進了王宮的衛所，放火焚燒宮殿，自焚而死。

人的愚昧傾敗他的道；他的心也抱怨耶和華。

神啊，求你定他們的罪！願他們因自己的計謀跌倒；願你在他們許多的過犯中把他們逐出，因為他們背叛了你。

就吩咐拿他兵器的人說：「你拔出刀來，將我刺死，免得那些未受割禮的人來刺我，凌辱我。」但拿兵器的人甚懼怕，不肯刺他；掃羅就自己伏在刀上死了。拿兵器的人見掃羅已死，也伏在刀上死了。

豈不是禍患臨到不義的，災害臨到作孽的呢？

驕傲在敗壞以先；狂心在跌倒之前。

神啊，你必使惡人下入滅亡的坑；流人血、行詭詐的人必活不到半世，但我要倚靠你。
