於是王就出發，他的全家都跟隨他；王留下十個妃嬪看守宮殿。

「耶和華如此說：『看哪，我必從你家裡興起災禍攻擊你。我將在你眼前把你的妃嬪奪去，交給在你身邊的人，他會在日光之下、在你眼前與你的妃嬪同睡。你雖然在暗中行事，我卻要在全體以色列人面前，在日光之下施行這報應。』」

大衛回到耶路撒冷的宮殿，就把他所留下看守宮殿的那十個妃嬪帶走，關進冷宮。王供養她們，但不與她們同房。她們被幽禁直到死的日子，終生如同寡婦。

他們臉上的表情證實自己的不是；他們像所多瑪那樣公然顯露自己的罪；他們毫不隱藏。他們有禍了，因為他們為自己招來了災禍。

有一天，傍晚的時候，大衛從床上起來，在王宮的屋頂上走動。他從屋頂上看見一個女人在洗澡，這女人容貌極其美麗。

他們的結局就是滅亡；他們的神就是自己的私慾；他們的榮耀在自己的羞恥之中；他們所思想的都是地上的事。
