And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, which came forth of my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more now[ may this] Benjamite[ do it]? let him alone, and let him curse; for the LORD hath bidden him.

David then said to Abishai and all his officials,“ My son, my own flesh and blood, is trying to kill me. How much more, then, this Benjamite! Leave him alone; let him curse, for the Lord has told him to.

Then David spoke to Abishai and all his officials. He said,“ My very own son Absalom is trying to kill me. How much more should this man from Benjamin want to kill me! Leave him alone. Let him curse. The Lord has told him to do it.

And, behold, the word of the LORD[ came] unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give[ them] unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.For thou didst[ it] secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against[ their] parents, and cause them to be put to death.

Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night:And I will come upon him while he[ is] weary and weak handed, and will make him afraid: and all the people that[ are] with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only:And I will bring back all the people unto thee: the man whom thou seekest[ is] as if all returned:[ so] all the people shall be in peace.And the saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword: and they escaped into the land of Armenia. And Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.

And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels slew him there with the sword.

O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but[ it is] in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
