At the end of four years, Absalom said to the king,“ Let me go to Hebron and fulfill a vow I made to the Lord.

After Absalom had lived in Jerusalem for four years, he went and spoke to the king. He said,“ Let me go to Hebron. I want to keep a promise I made to the Lord.

And at the end of four years Absalom said to the king,“ Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to the Lord, in Hebron.

Please let the king and his servants go with your servant.”The king said to Absalom,“ No, my son, let’s not all go, lest we be burdensome to you.” He pressed him; however he would not go, but blessed him.Then Absalom said,“ If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us.” The king said to him,“ Why should he go with you?”But Absalom pressed him, and he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the middle of his brothers. Then Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

Yahweh said to Samuel,“ How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite; for I have provided a king for myself among his sons.”Samuel said,“ How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” Yahweh said,“ Take a heifer with you, and say, I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh.

So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

He sent them to Bethlehem, and said,“ Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”

“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination— how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!
